Thank you for your order. Due to the political situation we have seen an extreme increase in orders. We are doing our best to ship out orders A.S.A.P. As it stands now your order will be shipped next Thursday or Friday. Thank you for your patience. This was in my inbox this morning. Online gun stores are posting the same thing, and many are cancelling gunshows because they have no stock left.
To all those who think it is foolish, I will offer you this. President-elect Obama has one of the most anti-gun records in the history of this country, and that is with his very brief time in politics. He has also called for a 500 percent increase in tax on ammunition, which will be low hanging fruit for a Democratically controlled government. Next will be magazines. I don't believe he will be able to pass another feel-good-do-nothing "Assault Thingie" ban in his first term, but he very well may try.
For the near future you can expect demand to outstrip supply as far as autoloading firearms goes, and it looks like ammo purchases might be interesting as well. My local Gander Mountain was out of all 7.62x39mm ammo last night, with the exception of about half a dozen boxes of the more expensive stuff. Buy it while you can.
As for the above linked article from the New York Times, this particular guy's thought stood out:
“My Second Amendment rights are unquestionably important to me, but so is feeding my family,” he said. “In reality, you won’t be able to afford to buy a gun if your job goes overseas.”If you were concerned about your job going overseas, then you shouldn't have voted for a guy who will tax the shit out of the companies who employ people here, thus driving them to hire elsewhere. The reason why people are buying tons of ammo is so that they can shoot food for their families when our new administration finishes off our wounded economy by raising taxes in order to hand it over to corrupt governments on the African continent.
At least this guy gets it:
“A lot of people are buying them as an investment,” Mr. Casella said. “Better than gold.”Firearms rarely loose value, and the hungrier you are the more they're worth!
Update: More on the gun buy phenomenon at SayUncle.

I do believe our local WalMarx had 7.62 bulk, nothing special but it's something to put downrange. The Southpoint store has more quantity and variety, although both are still pathetic.
