200 miles from nowhere

A sad but neat story about RAF Flight Sergeant Denis Copping who went Missing In Action in 1942 who apparently crashed his P-40 Kittyhawk in the Sahara, 200 miles from the nearest town.  It's deducted that his fate was wandering off into the desert until it claimed him, which is brutal.  There are excellent pictures of the aircraft at the link.

. . .and that's just a little bit more than the law would allow

Good grief. There's so much fail in this short tragic story that I'm just shaking my head.

As Bittinger approached the front porch of the home, the suspect fired an arrow into his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shootee had a "weapon;" the type is not made clear in the article. I'm under the assumption that if the shootee had a weapon and made threats, and/or became a deadly threat, then perhaps deadly force via bow and arrow was appropriate. Just because the shooter didn't use Paw Paw's shotgun hanging over the mantle doesn't mean that deadly force wasn't justified. The Dukes were quite fond of primitive tackle, and as we know they were just some good ol' boys, never meanin' no harm.

This part of the story was interesting:

The coroner says Bittinger died when the arrow punctured his lung and blood filled his heart.
Blood filled his heart?!?! You can die from that? Oh, shit, I have blood in my heart right now! I'mma fixin to call me the rescue squad, right fast! Maaaama! Maaama heeeeelp!! Bloods done filled my heart!!!!

My take on this is that the coroner meant blood filled his lung, or maybe the coroner imbibed a little too much moonshine, or even his sweat stained Realtree hat is on just a little too tight. We'll never know for sure. The hits just keep on coming, though:

A compound bow has a system of pulleys that provide more force with less pull. It’s normally used for hunting.
Or killing babies. You know, because anything that provides more force should be brought into the light for some much needed obfuscation, and then hopefully some legislating. Because this wasn't a killing with a "bow," but a "compound bow," meaning that we should ponder the shit out of what this actually means. It means the deadliness of the instrument is compounded, and commands less effort to wield, so logically we should point this out to the masses considering that a good 99.99% of professional journalists don't have a clue as to what to make of this. Being that the weapon is obviously compounded, it should only be allowed in the hands of law enforcement and professional hunters who have met the compounded training needed to handle all that compounded power that comes from a system of pulleys. Idiot.

Lastly, we have this comment that makes me weep for the people of this country:

Lynne Le

I don’t believe Tony threatened the suspect,
the suspect murder him and blame him, he’s death he can’t defense him self.
Lynne Le needs an intervention to get him/her off whatever substance he/she has been abusing. That person needs help, right quick now! Get Betty Sue and Jimmy John in a room with em' to talk some sayance in to em'!

Magnitudes of violence

I have to take this article with a grain of salt, as it is an interview from a single hidden source named "Juan" conducted by media types known for telling tall tales. If it is true, and really there's not much reason to think otherwise, than violence in Mexico is way worse than I thought.
In one of the most chilling revelations yet about the violence in Mexico, a drug cartel-connected trafficker claims fellow gangsters have kidnapped highway bus passengers and forced them into gladiatorlike fights to groom fresh assassins.
For all I knew, the cartels were only out to kill each other, and any government employees who interfered in the slaughter. I fail to see the problem in violent groups killing each other off, unless they are hurting innocent people. Mentally putting myself on a bus in Mexico, unarmed, and getting stopped by these crazies so that they can make a sport of me fighting others to the death has me a bit disconcerted though, as without a means of resistance I would be helpless. I can not adequately imagine that scenario despite my mind's capable abilities, and I suppose that's a good thing.

Comparing Mexico's violence with the US, I can see that they have taken it to a level that we will hopefully never go. We complain when a federal ABC agency shoots up a citizen in his recliner or a half dozen girls are found murdered in a swamp, and rightly so, but it still does not compare to finding 200 beheaded corpses buried in a shallow grave behind the grocery store every other weekend or full scale firefights between fifty men at the mall. I hope those things do not become commonplace here in America.

Spousal Unit Fail

Little initially put the gun to the dog's head and pulled the trigger several times, but nothing happened, police say the wife told them.
Knowing my wife like I do, I'm certain that if I was sitting on the porch pounding moonshine, snapping a partially loaded revolver at the dog while babbling about how bad my life sucks, she would probably end my suffering temporarily with a frying pan long enough for the state-run help to arrive and give me proper attention. But maybe my wife is different then the vast amount of them out there in that she cares about me, and wouldn't just sit on her ass while I self destructed.

The guy in the article is dead by his own hand, but I have to question the sanity of his wife. Telling the cops that her husband "got tired" of playing russian roulette with the dog means that she had plenty of time to do something to prevent such a tragedy, unless of course she's patiently waiting for that "til death do us part" clause in the marriage contract to be executed (oh, my pun!) so that she can get on with her life. It makes sense then.

When blunt force trauma is outlawed, only outlaws will use blunt force trauma. . .

It seems the savages in DC are finally respecting the gun ban and have instead chosen bludgeoning as their way of aggressive commerce.

Who knew vegetarian diets cause violence?

Investigators blamed a vegetarian diet on the mother grizzly's poor body condition, which they said was "made worse by a load of parasites found in her small intestine.
Hmmm. . . it seems that a bear cannot live by plants alone; they need tasty red camper meat to stay healthy and strong. I will take that into consideration if I ever go camping in the woods again.

Malice Aforethought Gun Violence

That's a mouthful, huh? You saw it here first!!!

Anyways, Utah is going to execute a murderer via firing squad in about a week, and there is an outcry from some about how mean it is:
"The firing squad is archaic, it's violent, and it simply expands on the violence that we already experience from guns as a society," Bishop John C. Wester, of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City, said during an April protest.
There's a lot wrong with that statement.

First, can it really be considered archaic if it's still in use? That it's violent is about the most stupid thing I've heard in a long time; exactly how do you expect someone to be put to death non-violently? Sprinkle poisoned fairy dust in their last meal? Death by pillow squad?

People are always bitching about how violent, barbaric, unfair, unethical, immoral, inhumane, or disgusting state sanctioned executions are, and they may be right, but every type of execution arguably meets all of that criteria, so what's the controversy? It's like protesting that water is wet. So a firing squad is too violent, and lethal injection may hurt too much, so what's the answer? Hanging? Guillotine? Ol' Sparky is probably the most violent way to go, yet people still ask for it from time to time. This scumbag asked for the firing squad over lethal injection, so what does that say?

Lastly, how does execution by firing squad expand on violence in society committed with guns? Does lethal injection expand on violent poisoning? Does the use of the electric chair cause scumbags to run out and electrocute somebody? Pretty silly.

Of interest to me is that one of the five rifles is alleged to be loaded with a blank round of ammunition, under the idea that none of the executioners will know for sure if the fatal round came from their rifle. This is really stupid in my opinion, mainly because if you can't tell the difference between a real shot fired and a blank round fired, then you have no business shooting at someone who is owed a clean death. If you have never fired a blank round of ammo, there is virtually no perceived recoil, and the report from the rifle is noticeably different, although it's likely that an executioner firing amongst others won't be able to hear his rifle anyways. Considering that these executioners should be experienced marksman, and are probably mandated to familiarize themselves with the rifles to be used by firing them on a range with live ammunition, they should definitely be able to tell from the recoil of the rifle if they are one of the unfortunate souls who fired a live round into the heart of a fellow human being. There's just no way.

On a lesser point, if executing condemned human beings is in your job description, and you volunteered for that job under your own power, why exactly does anyone think you're owed the opportunity to have a cloud of doubt cast on your duty? It just seems kinda pointless.

The thing that gets to me the most in all of this though is that there seems to be no question of his guilt. Nobody is arguing that he shouldn't be shot to death because he's not guilty; the argument is that it's wrong to shoot someone to death because it's too brutal, which brings us back to the whole death by pillow fight thing. Gardner shot his victim to death without consideration of the cruelty of his method, so really this sentence satisfies pretty much every criteria that I can think of in Exodus.

Again, I'm not advocating state executions. That I'm pretty torn on. Ultimately though, there is no real argument that putting someone to death one way is less nasty and cruel than another. We can have a round table discussion on what is the best way, and we can even invoke methods and ideas from the likes of Tom & Jerry or Roadrunner, but at the end of the day there is a heavy job to do. Here we have a man who has chosen his way, and he should have it.

Who really neeeeeeds to be a cage fighter anyways?

They're much too deadly to allow anyone but the most highly trained people to use. Oh, wait. . . .

A U.S. cage fighter ripped out the heart of his training partner while he was still alive after becoming convinced he was possessed by the devil, it was alleged today.

Jarrod Wyatt also cut out Taylor Powell's tongue and ripped off most of his face in a brutal assault that police said looked like a scene from a horror film, officers said.

People who are skilled at fighting should be registered and taxed just like a suppressor, machine gun, or sex offender. Think about it, what would happen if an unregistered cage fighter was loose near a school amongst children? Crazy, huh?

Virginia taketh away

Braggart, murdering rapist scumbag will be put to death via the electric chair today.

I'm generally not in favor of the state executing people, as the criminal justice system has a hard enough time just getting people's name right on the charge; however, this guy is in this precise position because he outed himself in a nasty letter to the prosecutor thinking his recent court win made him safe.

I'm not celebrating it, but I will sleep a little better tonight.

Don't inject me bro!!

Funny, I don't recall Dean Meyers getting to ask for a reprieve from his execution.

Perhaps James Martin, Sonny Buchanan, Premkumar Walekar, Sarah Ramos, Lori Ann Lewis-Rivera, Pascal Charlot, Kenneth Bridges, Linda Franklin, and Conrad Johnson should have pleaded for clemency from their executioner by any means necessary; maybe by saying that they were too mentally ill to receive a fatal bullet.

I get the anti-death sentence arguments. I really do, and I agree with them 99%. This, however, if carried out, will be righteous justice.

That's some serious penetration we're talkin about

Here's looking at you, North Korea and Iran.

And when a Boeing built Massive Ordnance Penetrator comes into your silo, you're going to get more than just the tip.

I apologize; it's just that I have a soft spot for conventional weapons of mass destruction.

The press is so cavalier with the term "high powered"

A dead man found shot to death with a nail gun was hit over thirty times in the head.

No mention of how loathsome a person would have to be to commit such a crime, but there is the typical media fixation on anything that fires a projectile being "high powered," and of course the notion that somehow they are too easy to buy and use projectiles that are too long:
Detective Inspector Mark Newham said yesterday that post-mortem examination results had showed Liu was shot repeatedly in the head up to 30 times with a high-powered nail gun. "Similar types of nail guns can fire nails up to 85mm long," Insp Newham said. Detectives said the nail gun used in the murder was a standard cordless, framing, gas-charged gun, widely available for sale and hire.
I was totally in the dark about nail guns being available for hire. Now that Detective Newham mentions it, I have heard something about these deadly nail guns taking jobs that Australians don't want to do.

Something should be done about this.

This is why I don't trust any news outlet, including FOX News, who also covered this story. The morons that are referred to globally as reporters, journalists, anchors, and the like can't seem to get their head around the fact that man made objects simply cannot commit crimes, yet they are intent on blaming these objects anyways. It doesn't matter how easily one can buy or damned nail gun, or how long the nails are; people who are insane enough to murder will use any means available, and that's why he or she used a simple nail gun - it was nearby and capable of getting the job done.

Ultimately, the serpents that work in modern journalism think that any device that may be used to kill should be regulated by someone other than themselves. Regular people can't be trusted, and that's why the over all flavor of this article is about how we should make it difficult to buy construction tools with something along the lines of licensing.

The day after such a theoretical law would be passed, and the very moment the first illegal alien tries to buy one without a license and is caught, you will hear these same folks screaming about how unfair the law is.

Such compassion

I'm often pretty hard on the DC government, but I generally cut the residents some slack. Those people live under the yolk of nanny statism every day, and I often wonder why they put up with the government that they have; why they keep electing pompous elitists or slimy tax dodging scumbags.

Well, with compassion like this, who really cares about what your government is doing.

Citizens who would step over a dying man while they load their groceries are clearly "sheeple" in every distasteful, loathsome, and repugnant meaning of the word.

When will the snake violence end?

Another senseless death by pythonidae in a world where serpent owners are encouraged to have bigger and deadlier reptilian death machines.

I'm kind of fond of the 6" Pythons myself.

Update: More serpentes violence, this time in Texas.

Update: And in New Mexico. Ya know, there oughta be a law. . .

How could they kill without guns?

Too bad this woman died a needless death. No doubt she would have had a chance if she had been armed, or at least had the option, but California doesn't allow it because she's not professional enough to know when her life is at stake, nor does she have the ninja skills needed to wield such a small portable device. If only she were a well connected anti-gun celebrity, then all of that wouldn't matter.

My main question is how is it that two scumbags could rob and kill with such little effort when all they're armed with is knives? Such instruments are so 19th century; everyone knows that guns are the only tools these days that give an individual power over another. Then again, if Roshni Singh had had a gun then her attackers would have just taken it away, right? Don't criminals study disarming techniques and pistol skills at the same secret gun training facilities that cops do?

How is it, again, that those gun laws are helping? Disarming your citizens should be a crime.

Who knew 150 year old ordnance was dangerous?

Very bizarre. A civil war collector is killed by a 150+ old shell that he was restoring. Definitely worth a 2 minute read.

A terrible way to die

That's a new category that I'm starting after reading about this.

I've posted several before, and more freak accidents keep popping up.

Thursday, April 10, 2008

I can think of no worse

This is possibly THE worst way to die. You can count on OSHA conjuring up all sorts of new laws in the name of "safety" because of this freak accident.

Pure Evil

This is the most vile and evil story I've heard about in years. It goes to show that violence is caused by evil people, not inanimate objects. Too bad Illinois no longer uses capital punishment, the world would be a better place without these individuals consuming perfectly good air.
