Hump Day roundup

US Special Operation Forces operating in an operational training exercise. Jumping out of planes with all that gear on in the dark of night is bad ass. And, it's good to once again confirm via pictures that Marine Special Operations types are still being issued 1911s. Way cool.

Cannon fodder: a drunk dude uses a home-made assault thingie to shoot his girlfriend to death through the walls of their trailer. It sounds like the children made it out OK.

The contents of a can of Whoop-Ass poured out for the NorK's viewing pleasure: Countless F-16s sitting ready for war on the flight line in South Korea. That's a whole lotta mean sitting there!

Speaking of warbirds, here's an ARFCOM thread on the F4 Phantom. While I have said before that I believe the Spitfire to be the most gorgeous fighter plane ever, I have to say without a doubt that the F4 is the meanest looking war plane ever devised. Even while sitting perfectly still on the flight line, that sucker looks like it's fed demons to keep it from lashing out at the world.

Do you watch Top Shot? Season 4's Gabby Franco has bravely registered at ARFCOM and has a thread where you can ask her stuff about the show.

Combat AAR by those in-the-know on the M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle. I'm still not a big fan. I understand the principle of ammo efficiency and conservation in a firefight, I'm not convinced that this weapon is going to give fire superiority against a modern, well trained and equipped army with belt fed weapons. From reading the thread though, it does seem like the Marine Corps intent the whole time was to field a full auto battle carbine and not a replacement for a LMG.

Again from ARFCOM, a 50-some page thread on making Kydex holsters and stuff for the end of the world. It's arts and crafts skills for the crazy gun people!

News roundup

Much of this is from Drudge.

First up is that Detroit is trying to pass a law against removing the markings from toy guns in an effort to prevent cops from shooting gang bangers who haven't yet robbed enough people to buy a real gun. I guess Detroit has finally settled their criminals-with-real-guns problem and can focus now on other things. I'm with one of the commenters who notes:

tahlkewl1
"If you point a gun with or without an orange tip at a cop, expect to be shot. Not sure we need a law, sounds more like natural selection.."
Sounds about right.

Next, a woman pushing her baby in a stroller in El Paso, TX was shot in the leg by a bullet that originated in a gunfight in Juarez, Mexico. No confirmation yet on whether the weapon the bullet came from was illicitly sold to a Mexican criminal by the ATF, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. The El Paso mayor has told the masses to not be alarmed, because getting shot in one country from a gunfight with automatic weapons in another country shouldn't prevent you from going out and getting that new iPhone.

A call to the police for help in Berkely, CA was not entertained because the cops were needed to intimidate smelly people at a protest instead; the end result was a man was beaten to death with a flower pot. It has been noted ad nauseum that you are your 1st line of defense against danger, and that the police have no duty to protect you. Having said that, police shouldn't have a duty to intimidate smelly protesters, either.

Husbands, be good to your Kentucky women because you may get shot in the satchel if you cheat on her. Right or wrong, I've got no dog in that fight. My policy is I don't chance to find out if my wife would shoot me in the crotch for infidelity by not committing infidelity. I can tell you that it has been a winning policy so far!

In New Hampshire, a homeowner gets arrested for firing a warning shot at an intruder. Really, we have to do a better job at getting the word out that warning shots are very bad. Says the homeowner:

""I didn't know it was illegal [to fire into the ground], but I had to make that guy realize I was serious,"
My thought is that if the scumbag doesn't take the pointed firearm as fair warning that you're serious, then if he still comes at you you can raise things up a notch by sending a round through his chest. Last I heard, that's lawful and sends a strong message.

The Marine Corps is in the final stages of source selection for a new .45 ACP handgun. It sounds like it's going to be a 1911, but there's only rumors of what manufactures are still in the game. Colt and Springfield Armory are mentioned in the article, but it's noted that they had previously submitted 1911s to the Marines. At the last Modern Day Marine Convention, I saw Colt and Smith & Wesson both were making railed 1911s, and Springfield Armory has had the Operator for quite some time.

Take your lady(s) shooting and post pics. A splendid idea!

Tuesday morning weirdness roundup

It's a couple of years old, but check out this 230 lb. wolf that was killed in Alberta. Yikes. Something like that roaming around where I live would get shot to death in a heartbeat.

And in VA news:

A 15 year old is being charged with a felony for pepper spraying a fellow student in school. First, what's the point in charging a minor with a felony such as this? Trying for the death penalty? And "malicious assault with a caustic substance"? Does that mean that a cop can be charged with that if they use their pepper spray without proper cause? Just wondering.

A man tackles a home intruder, causing scumbag's handgun to fall to the ground. I thought that only happened in movies. Good thing scumbags don't often use holsters. Also, how is it that felons keep getting ahold of handguns?

Two attempted kidnappings of young girls in Spotsylvania in a week. Both of these men hopped out of their vehicles and chased the girls for a little ways through their subdivisions. These sickos should be advised that many folks around here have not forgotten the last demented shitbag that terrorized the county, and don't take too kindly to weirdos chasing our youth with box cutters. It will not happen here again.

Crazy people roundup

Sometimes I check out the news and there are so many stories that defy belief that I feel compelled to clump them together and share them with the world. Kind of like Drudge (where I find some of these stories), but only for bizarre stories of desperate debtors armed with strange weapons.

First up, a school principle and staff in West Virginia were smoking Meth in the principle's office. Why not; it's well known that West Virginia folks don't have teeth anyways, so it's not like they're going to get meth mouth from it. I kid, I kid.

Hailing from Maryland, a celebrated cop is charged with 12 felonies for allegedly trying to seduce a kid with alcohol and, failing that, pistol whipped him and shot him twice in the back. The cop's story is obviously not in concert with the above, but the whole thing is under investigation and there's apparently enough merit to the kid's side of the story that even Prince George's County police are cringing. I couldn't imagine the hell of being a former cop incarcerated for trying to rape a kid.

In Colorado, some homeless dude robbed a cupcake store armed with a blood filled syringe. The man claimed it was tainted with AIDS, but that's irrelevant; if someone comes at you with a syringe -- whether empty or not -- that person is a deadly threat and should be treated as such. I wouldn't risk hobo guy jamming a needle of any sort in me or my family. He would probably get shot. I do award him one brownie point though for being resourceful.

In New York, a former boxer is pissed because he didn't qualify as a TSA screener because he only has one hand. That's a stupid reaction on his part - he should know that premeditated sexual assault is done way more efficiently by scumbags with both their hands. I was surprised the most though by the discovery that Americans voluntarily apply for the TSA screener job; this whole time I thought DHS operatives kidnapped them in the middle of the night from Serbia or some shit. Why would anyone willingly try out for that?

There were two mass shootings in Washington, the second one being a husband who walked into a nightclub in a casino and gunned down his wife, who was grinding it up with her new man while supported by her wild, fun-loving sisters. They all got shot too, but somehow survived. The husband will hopefully be imprisoned for the rest of his life, and I'm sure the wife will probably never ho-down with a lover while her husband is at large again.

There are many more stories, but these will do for now.

Crazy people roundup

A shooting victim at the funeral of a shooting victim, in Chicago. Why, there aught to be a law or something to prevent stuff like this from happening. Maybe make the whole daggone city a place that is free from idiots with guns. What a swell idea.

Also, TSA screeners conducting an intense scrotum search found a bunch of heroin on a traveler. Oh wait, did I say TSA screeners? My mistake; it was Customs Inspectors, and they weren't sexually assaulting him when they found the drugs, they were interviewing him. Weird. Who would have known that old fashioned police work would produce results?

And again, hailing from Stafford, Virginia we have a psychotic woman ramming her car into another car, all the while her 1 year old is safely strapped into the back seat. Now this may come as a huge surprise, but the whole incident was allegedly started over a man. Shocking!

Kansas City shows off its lunatics with some parents who were off doing who knows what while their crazy ferret ate the fingers off their four month old. Leaving your kids in an air conditioned car while you buy a lottery ticket is grounds these days for state charges, so these people had to know that it was a bad idea to leave their infant at home alone. With an animal that is known to bite.

Now, as you go about your day, look to your left and your right at all the friendly people you encounter and know that at least one of them is batshit crazy. Pay attention to your surroundings at all times.

Gun/Knife/Tomahawk/Sword P0rnucopia

Lots of good stuff over at ARFCOM.

Comparison between NAA mini revolvers - .22 LR and .22 Magnum. I think I would go for the .22 LR after reading that.

Sword P0rn. Do I even need to add anything there?

Pictures of Cold Steel's ginormous Espada folding knife. That thing is awesome, and may be classed as a sword.

A custom blade made for a Microtech Scarab.

Tomahawks!!

Memorial Day roundup

Good morning folks, and happy Memorial Day. Gratitude to all our veterans out there dishing out justice to America's enemies. Stay safe and keep your heads down.

For this morning, I thought a quick roundup would be good to go.

Starting out, it would be appropriate to see what our military is doing this weekend. There are events all around the world depicted in this thread, but there are also lots of Marines kicking ass!

Armed defense against a bear in an Alaska state park. The final word is still out on whether it was a good shoot.

The AP News has a hit piece on Oath Keepers, lamenting the group's 10 "vague principles" and otherwise smearing them. You can always count on the media to only support the first amendment, and know nothing of the rest. It's not surprising that they consider holding government accountable to the Constitution "vague principles."

Lots of shootings last night in "Gun Free" DC. Also some stabby, too. Why is DC so violent?

The 17 year old girl that appeared to be abducted in Virginia is safe and sound. That's the good news. The bad is that people will still not be bothered to even find out what the hell is going on when three people jump out of a van, grab a girl aggressively, and then drag her into the open van.

That's all for now. Y'all take it easy!

Friday morning roundup

A 9mm handgun "accidentally fired," all on its own of course according to the news, sending a bullet through an adjacent apartment. Fortunately, the bullet didn't hit anyone, and the moron who negligently fired it called 911 and owned his stupidity. He was arrested. Of note is that the bullet went through three walls, two of them exterior, before stopping on the fourth.

Mmmyaah. . .life sentence, schmife sentence. . . .who cares that he shot five people to death; he's cooperating!

Nothing in this article interests me, with the exception that I firmly believe that it's dishonorable and disrespectful to wear chevrons that you didn't earn. It makes a pretty stupid fashion statement too.

Look for pens to soon be banned in courthouses, schools, and public buildings because they can obviously be used as weapons.

A Florida man obviously compensating for his penis retrieves his pistol from his car and stops a bank robbery without managing to fire a shot in all his bloodthirsty anger. It's ok though because he was an OFF DUTY SECURITY GUARD. No mention of whether he is an armed security guard, though he bothered with the permit stuff to exercise his rights, so it's doubtful.

Beware! Ninja roam the woods, and are armed with machetes. Someone should make a law banning kids from putting on masks and slashing people with primative weapons.

"Guns are not allowed on campus, absolutely," - Spoken right after a woman fires a handgun in a bathroom stall on a campus in Denver. Maybe there should be a sign or something.

Kure Beach, North Carolina mayor hates, Hates thongs so bad he bans them. Californians and New Yorkers are happy he did. OK then. I have to ask then: how much cheek is too much?

China schools have become so dangerous despite the almost complete ban on firearms in the country that the government has to put armed cops in schools to stop the killing. That "police restraint stick" is so cool that I'm going to buy one and order a holster for it. Can't be too safe these days.

A gun related poll to hit

At NBC4 Washington regarding gun owner's rights next week at the 2nd Amendment March. So far the natives are 'thrilled' about it, but more love from my fellow gunnies wouldn't hurt. There's also an article on DC getting voting rights passed despite another rider amendment that would further cripple DC's silly gun laws.

On another note, a group of Americans took DC's DMV to the mat over wearing a hijab for their driver's license photo and won.

Arguing over state benefits is the cool thing to do these days, but none the less, people are waking up and finding out that they can collectively make a difference. Whatever your proclivities may be, people flexing their might in a peaceful fashion aught to be celebrated.

**So this post is going to be a roundup post, as I've been super strapped for time the last few weeks, thus the reason for the light blogging.

A new war museum got the nod to be built in Prince William county, Virginia. It sounds like it's gonna be huge! I have some pics from a recent trip to the Marine Corps museum that I haven't had time to post yet, but will get to it eventually.

Tuesday morning roundup

The disaster on our border is getting worse. Why stories like this don't make national news is anyone's guess. This is the first I've heard about the Minutemen breaking up, which is interesting considering their exemplary record of avoiding a shooting, but especially alarming considering that this article says they broke up basically because they know that it's going to happen at any given moment due to the situation there. Scary. **Nothing about a breakup on their website.

Criminals often chose "safe" neighborhoods; these gunman chose a Fairfax county home. Fairfax is getting a lot of attention these days.

Just because our advanced society has a safety net, doesn't mean that that safety net can't fail. Do note that the fire chief says that 911 calls were still taken, but that doesn't mean squat if nobody can respond. Always have a plan B.

Why would anyone neeeeeed a gun in a classroom? Someone should have put up a "Gun Free Zone" sign.

Is it me, or are jails and prisons these days not very good at keeping people in? This is the second story like this that I've heard of recently. Stop letting crazies walk out the front door.

This is a better way for politicians to handle their issues than countless statutes and regulations.

Whoa!! A while back I posted about a DC man who was arrested for indecent exposure when a woman on a street complained that she could see that he was naked; well, he's still fighting this charge, and there's more to the story:
Williamson describes the day in October when police showed up at his home while he was sleeping.

"You wake up, roll over, you have guns out in your face. Yes, it's shocking it's almost like a home invasion-- like robbery, except they have uniforms on. I just put my hands straight up. And did exactly what I was told to do. They asked me for an ID. What am I doing here? I live here. What are you doing here?" Williamson said.

Ummm, it is a home invasion! Where do these cops think they have the authority to just come into that mans house?

An officer testified they had guns drawn "just in case we encountered a hostile individual...could have been a burglar."
Uh huh. Sure buddy.
Police are fulfilling their function as a "community caretaker"-- checking to make sure no one inside the house needed help.
Raise your hand if you think this is a good idea. I don't care how much you luvs the cops because your uncles dad was a cop and he was cool n' stuff; cops can serve a legitimate purpose, but they are ultimately armed strangers. Not only that, but there is a procedure for entry into a person's home, and that does not entail just wandering in and sticking a gun in their face. Painting them as "community caretaker[s]" is perhaps the most dangerous idea I have heard of in my time.

Unbelievable.

Turesday morning roundup

Not one, but two articles in the Washington area news about VCDL's Lobby Day. Curiously none of the bloodshed from all those gun owners was mentioned. From the looks of one of the articles, the locals are thrilled. The other pretty much shills for the anti gun families of the VA Tech massacre by using the typical raw emotion rather than fact. Not mentioned is that it took three minutes for the cops to even get to the building during the VA Tech massacre, and that it took several more minutes to get inside. I guess playing dead on the lawn in Richmond was appropriate.

Finally, someone who listens to those who elected him. Spend less instead of take more? Crazy stuff. Who would have thought that Virginians were tired of paying taxes, or that the ABC Department are a bunch of tyrannical yahoos? Although I see speed limits as money making ventures that have nothing whatsoever to do with public safety, seeing it raised 5 mph means nothing. Everyone knows that in VA you just keep the speedo pinned at 79 mph and you're good-to-go.

Five lucky Washingtonians get to be really real jihadis in a Pakistani prison! Enjoy that local spa treatment fellas!

Public schools managing your kids hair length. Yup! It's gonna be private school for my kids!

Ummmm, last I heard, wild animals are not pets. Pets are domesticated animals that are linked to a responsible person; thousands of wild roaming deer that eat azaleas and get struck by cars do not match that description. Honestly, I'm surprised that Texans even took the time to ask for permission to kill them off.

New Virginia gun laws going up

Via The Sentinel, the blog for the Virginia Citizens Defense League, is a list of all the new gun laws that are proposed in Virginia this year. There are good and bad bills in there. I hate that balisongs - "butterfly knives" - get demonized so badly. They are extremely useful tools that, unfortunately, politicians and soccer moms dislike because of a stigma mostly created by Hollywood.

Also of note: VCDL Lobby Day this Monday on Martin Luther King Day in Richmond. I didn't even notice that Monday was a holiday, and I haven't been checking my emails, so this one snuck up on me.

Morning roundup

Update: Via Snowflakes in Hell, in appears that there has been some well known violent friction in the Hain household for some time, and that friends of Melanie had tried to help her get out.

Update: So far it looks like Melanie's husband, who was a parole officer and prison guard, did the shooting.

First up, it's Pimp Your Galil day in Mexico! Check out some of the weapons the Mexican drug cartels acquired from US gunshows, like rifle grenades, short barreled rifles, RPGs, and 120mm terror. No, seriously, stop laughing. It's true. Really.

Next up, go over to Practical Riflery Forums to see my latest range work. I got my 308 to run perfectly, and I will be doing a write up with pics this weekend.

A tragic murder suicide in Ohio that will be making a buzz around the gun community. There's not alot of info yet, but I'll update if I find more.

Creepy NRA video promoting Bob McDonnell.

NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg blows $1.5 million taxpayer dollars 'proving' nothing during an attempt to smear gun shows. The Associated Press again asserts the incompetence of their writers by confusing "occasional sellers" (random citizen selling privately owned gun) with a gun dealer (Citizen licenced to sell guns as a business).

TSA almost, but not quite, catches a kid boarding a plane from Oregon to Illinois using his mothers ID and name. It was a good effort though; maybe next time fellas. Until then, you keep on keeping the skies safe from terrorists!

DC officials all pissed about guns

Not infringing on a citizens right to bear arms is too much for them to handle.

There are three articles in the Washington Post between yesterday and today on this matter, so here is a roundup:

Fear of new regs drives gun, ammo shortage: There is much yammering about the anti-gun Obama administration; you have to get to the very end of the article to get the rest of the reason why gun and ammo sales are brisk.

DC attorney general decries gun amendment: Just check out the opening sentence! Yes, DC AG Peter Nickles actually thinks that DC's infringing gun laws actually stop terrorists, and that because the terrorists used box cutters to hijack commercial airliners and crash them into buildings that DC needs to have a ban on semi-automatic rifles. That's some logic!!

D.C. Gun Exception Alarms Md. Officials: Disingenuous. Maryland lawmakers aren't "alarmed" over safety issues, they're concerned about who's going to pay the salary for the cops who have to do the background checks, and the costs of implementing a system. Hey guys, how about you just sell DC residents guns without a background check! That solves the problem! What, it's not like scumbags in DC have any problem getting their hands on a firearm anyways, so why bother with making it a giant pain in the ass for law abiding citizens?

The whole gnashing of teeth over gun laws is kind of hilarious. DC wants to be recognized just like any other state, but they don't want to honor the rights of their citizens. Sorry, you can't have it both ways. Really, they can't have it their way at all considering the Constitutional issues at stake, and the real problem is that they don't give a damn about their citizens in the first place.

Monday morning roundup

The 2007 Crime Report from Virginia is out. Crime is slightly down, but was that 411 people were killed by murder/nonnegligent manslaughter last year within a population of 7,078,515 for a murder rate of 5.33. DC on the other hand, for 2006 had 169 murder/nonnegligent manslaughters amongst a population of 581.530 for a murder rate of 29.06. Weird.

DC Mayor Fenty is letting the DC taxpayers foot the bill for his security detail.

Somehow people keep getting shot and killed in "Gun Free DC." Impossible, right?

Virginia's prison system is jacked up because of leasing cells to other states.

Fairfax police make a false arrest on a North Carolina gun owner who was open carrying in VA, and then harass him, drop his gun in the road, and then harass him when he went to get his gun back. Via VCDL.

Philip Miles to be released from Russian prison tomorrow. If you don't remember, he was sentenced to 3 years for trying to bring a box of rifle cartridges to a friend he was visiting.

Friday morning round up

A NYC politician gets a DWI in DC.

A very shady article about a guy in MD who was arrested at a "traffic stop" for having "marijuana and a loaded 9mm magazine." The headline says he had a gun, and later in the article they call the 9mm magazine a "loaded 9mm." Then they say that the guy crashed his car. Then they say they found the gun and marijuana in his home. NBC just needs to get the facts straight.

A bingo parlor gets raided in MD. Saving them from themselves no doubt.

A VA Tech student crashes her car into a crowd of people in front of a sports bar while driving drunk and text messaging.

Friday, April 18, 2008

Friday morning round up

The DC bank robber is given more money that taxpayers have to pay for. My past coverage here.

People do not seem to respect gravity these days.

ACLU opposes DC's gun grab. My past coverage of said gun grab here, here and here.

Mother stabbed to death while fighting with two thugs who were trying to carjack her. They had taken her keys, but her 4 month old was in the car and she fought to get the keys back.

Fire can be used as a weapon and is totally unregulated!

Kalifornia high school student killed by a school police officer. Typical Kalifornians blame the cop, the school and just about anything else besides the student, who smashed a cop in the back of the head with a baseball bat, knocking him to the ground. In the story, the cop drew his sidearm when the kid was about to hit him again and accidentally dropped the magazine. He pulled his backup from an ankle holster and killed the student.
