Movie Guns XXIV

Greetings from South East Asia. My timezone is way different than the states right now, so technically I'm only a few hours late.

The film for this weeks Movie Guns is Exit Wounds. I was watching this one the other day and thought it would make a good post. There is some good ol' 1911 gunplay in it, as well as some far fetched over-the-top action. Of course I have picked out the inaccurate details for your viewing pleasure, and I even have an anti-gun quote for you.

Here is the title shot with the vice president speaking out about gun violence in Detroit, where the movie takes place. Doesn't he look like Mitt Romney?
Mitt Romney
Here is his anti-gun rhetoric:

"Ladies and gentleman, it's a pleasure for me to be here on such a beautiful day. . .in the great city of Detroit. And I'd love to tell you all. . . to sit back, relax, and enjoy yourselves. I'd love to, but unfortunately I can't do that. There's a very serious issue that's spiraling out of control in this country. . . illegal handguns ending up in the hands of our children. But instead of reading off a bunch of statistics you might not already know. . . that last year more preschoolers died from guns that police officers. . . or that gunshot wounds are the 2nd leading cause of death for all people in the U.S. ages 10 - 34."

". . .that could have been any one of your children. I hope that you would consider my four year plan to get guns off the streets."

Are you sick yet? I know this sounds familiar, and just so you know, 51 police officers were shot to death nationally in 2000, the year of which this fictional Mitt Romney speakswhich not a big number in the scheme of things, and I don't see firearm fatalities anywhere in the top 15 deaths for 2000. I don't have a secure connection right now, so I can't access the WISQARS tool to comletely debunk his "10 - 34" junk.

Now, back to the guns.

A group of BGs, later to be called a "Michigan militant group," tries to take out the vice presidential motorcade. Several of the BGs are dressed like cops, and one of them is shooting with this high dollar Skorpion Vz61:
Skorpion Vz 61

Another BG jumps out of an ice cream truck and pulls two Glock 18s out and kills two real cops. To think that he had the money to buy those pricey guns, but not enough for some holsters:
Twin Glock 18s
Twin Glock 18s
Note the silly gangster style hold, the flinching, and the fact that he could have done the exact same thing with a five shot revolver. Just an observation.

Our hero, detective Boyd (Steven Segal), pulls up in his El Camino and shoots the twin Glock BG with his short slide 1911:
Photobucket

Some of the BGs are in a helicopter, and a door gunner is firing down with a M60:

The secret service is firing with H&K MP5PDWs, and they can't seem to hit that door gunner despite the low loiter of the helo. Strange:
H&K MP5PDW

The other BGs dressed as cops are firing with Glock 18s while using their motorcycles as cover:
Glock 18 fire
It looks like he's using the sights.

Boyd kills all of the BGs on the ground using his ninja tactics, the ice cream truck, his 1911 and the Mozambique Drill, use of BG as human shield, and a Micro Uzi that morphs into a Glock 18:
Micro Uzi

He then turns his focus on the helo, which he seems to be able to take out with his 1911 that morphed from the Glock 18 that morphed from the Micro Uzi that he took from a BG and miraculously fires in automatic bursts. The helo blows up, and you can see daylight through the bullet holes in the smiley face that is made of wood.

Next up we have a street fight with a bunch of punks when they try to steal Boyds truck. One of the punks pulls up his shirt to reveal a nickel plated S&W Model 36:
S&W Model 36

Another punk has a CCC Balisong that, for some reason, is carried open and tucked in his belt. Boyd taketh away:

Segal taketh away

Then another punk puts a S&W Model 686 to Boyd's head, and at the moment he pulls the trigger Boyd does a secret ninja kick and disarms the hoodlum:

Boyd goes out that night and finds some strange activity. He notices a guy named T.K. (Anthony Anderson) using some super tactical night vision binos that even record video and audio!:
Tactical Binos

Boyd goes in and gets into a fight with an undercover cop. He disarms him with some strategically thrown judo pipes that knock this unknown pistol out of his hand:
Unk pistol

Later on, Boyd is checking out a building that turns out is being robbed. I got some close ups of his unknown make 1911, and during this scene he fires thirteen rounds without a relaod:

Segal's short slide 1911
Mag change
It's well known that Steven Segal is a 1911 guy. I believe he is an avid collector. His gunhandling skills are pretty good and he keeps his finger off the trigger, for the most part.

Moving on, we have Boyd and his new partner, Clark (Isaiah Washington) going into a club to investigate a guy named Walker (DMX), and Boyd ends up on another fist fight, while Clark gets into a standoff with Walker in the back alley. Clark holds Walker with a Glock 17, and tries to take his compensated and stainless Sig P220 from his waistband. Again, why the expensive hardware and no holster? The two get into a scuffle and end up with the other's gun:
Glock 17
Standoff

Here's a closer look at that Sig:
Walker's Comped Sig P220

Boyd finds out that there are a bunch of dirty cops on the force, so he goes to the rooftop of a garage to tell his captain. The dirty cops try to take them out with some more spendy hardware, like this H&K G36K:
H&K G36
Way to not use that $1k+ optic! He hits the car but not Boyd or the captain.

Another dirty cop uses this unknown shotgun to somehow blow up cars, but not the one he's aiming at. Again, damnit, use the sights:
Unk shotty

The same cop then misses repeatedly with a stainless Desert Eagle, and right after that another cop blasts at Boyd and the captain with a Remington 870 with the buttstock dangerously mounted on his ribcage:

No Good

Now the cop with the 870 pulls a Glock 17, fires it a few times from a cup-and-suacer grip, and then the Glock changes to a H&K USP:
Poor grip
H&K USP

We knew the cops were dirty because Walker met with one of them to buy a large shipment of drugs, and during the conversation puts a Beretta Inox to his neck:
Beretta Inox

The whole thing comes down to a huge firefight at the end. Boyd gets ready at his house where he has a box of guns laid out on his living room floor. You can see his 1911 with several loaded mags, a H&K USC, and a glimpse of a H&K SL8:
H&K USC

Something I caught that made me laugh is Boyds shadow box with his "ode to me" stuff in it. You can see that he was in the US Army by the Master Sergeant rank insignia, as well as all of the medals and such, but what got me is that the two shooting badges are Marine Corps Marksman and Sharpshooter badges, not Army ones. Ooops:
USMC Badges

I can't remember who's trunk this is, but it has a Benelli Super 90 in it, which is seen in the hands of Walker during the fight:
Benelli Super 90
Walkers Super 90

It can't be a gun movie without a Beretta 92F in it, and here we have two:
Beretta 92F
Chrome Beretta 92F

There are a few AR15's of unknown make in this fight. Here's a couple:
Photobucket
Shorty AR

There's another guy firing a H&K G36K while not using either one of the optics that are standard on the rifle:
Idiot and his G36

One of the BGs has a Remington 870 with a folding stock that looks like it was borrowed from a Franchi:
Remington 870 folder

This gunfight has it all folks, even a Ruger MP9, a Sig 228, and Clark's Sig P226:
Ruger MP9
Sig P228
Sig P226

We even have Boyd and Sgt. Usseldinger (Matthew Taylor) fighting ninja style with fabric cutting blades that are weilded like swords! Usseldinger even does a flip for you!

Ninja

If cops can do back flips while sword fighting, then they're more than professional enough to handle a firearm! That's why they're "Only Ones!"

That's it for today folks. Despite some of the outrageous stuff in this movie, it's a good flick. It includes a vast variety of blasty hardware, and some bigtime gunfights to go with it.

Update: Boyd's 1911 is a Colt 1991A1 Compact in blued steel.

Feet on the ground

Again, sorry about the light posting; I've been in the air for the last two and a half days. I have a Movie Guns post coming up, I just have to put it all together, and after that, I will be back in the air again for about two more days.

There seems to be some chatter on IMFDB about how Movie Guns X has some inaccuracies. Indeed, there is a Mossberg 500 that is actually a 590, thanks to the keen eye of a commenter, and some of the M4geries I did not correctly identify. I appreciate the scrutiny. I would like to add that both of our websites have inaccuracies, as they are created by humans which are prone to such things, and I will sometimes cruise IMFDB after I do my post to do a comparison. I like to think that my self gratifying site has something else to offer, which is commentary on the gunplay in the film. To each their own.

I'm barely holding this laptop together at this point, and I still can't post comments. I'm glad to hear that Sailor Curt's wife is good-to-go. There's no news like good news. Well, I'm going to take a nap before doing the post as I can barely hold my head up.

See you in about six hours or so.

Just call the cops!! They will save you!

Or not.

"she was frantic. . . she said he has a gun."

"when the homeowner came out of the room he had the gun in his hand."

"a police officer mistook the homeowner for the suspect and fired up to six shots, hitting him in the stomach and legs."

Ooops. Some will say that this is why homeowners shouldn't have guns in the first place, but getting the whole story shows that the victim stopped the criminal by using his gun, holding him at gunpoint until cops arrived.

Chicago style gun safety

Not that I'm surprised:
Chicago has had 322 murders through August 21, or 42 more than the number committed through the same date last year. Also, police have received 10,000 more calls from people about shots being fired, and the number of calls about gang disturbances has jumped by nearly 4,000, according to the department documents.

Emphasis added. 10K more calls than last year over gunfire, in a city that's all "Gun Free" and all. Perfect! I reckon the solution is to make guns illegaler for gang members.

It's a good thing they have all of those strict gun laws and signs, because then gangbangers may start to get bold!

Hearts and minds

Sailor Curt needs some thoughts and prayers. I can't comment on his blog cos' my PC is not agreeing with me, but I'm praying for him.

Funny how that works

Two scumbags tried to rob a man in DC, but the victim pulled a gun and shot it out with them. He believes he hit one of the scumbags, but was himself hit in the hip.

To ruin the story for you, the victim was a retired cop. I just think it's worth noting that armed resistance saved the day, and not a cellphone.

DC Council approves loosening gun restrictions

The DC Council approved some measures that would reduce the restrictions on handgun ownership in the home. Among them are semi-autos are now allowed, but there is a 10 round magazine restriction; guns do not need to be unloaded and/or disassembled; safe storage is recommended policy, but is not law; one gun a month is allowed for registry; and finally, 5 years in prison if a minor is hurt or killed with a registered firearm.

It's a good start. I don't think that the District gives two shits one way or another about being rational in all of this, but I do think this is a knee-jerk reaction to Congress going above their heads. If they hadn't screwed this up last time they wouldn't be in this situation. Personally, I wouldn't be satisfied until the council went door-to-door and apologized to every citizen living in the District for walking all over their rights for 32 years.

Watch the little video for some more info. -8 points for picturing evil ARs when the vote was to relax handgun restrictions, and +3 points for calling it a magazine instead of a "clip." Fair and balanced my ass.

Chief Lanier is still clueless

11. House panel hears testimony on bill to ease DC gun laws

**************************************************
The DC police chief, showing her total lack of respect for the citizens of DC, says that if citizens are allowed to have guns, the presidential motorcades will be in danger!!

Unbelievable. She argues that it would make the job of the police harder. So, in her eyes, it is more convenient for the DC police if citizens would simply go around unarmed and die quietly, without a big fuss.

Thanks, Chief Lanier - but why don't you go first? Leave your gun, uniform, and police radio at home and wander around some of DC's more dicey neighborhoods at night by yourself armed only with a cell phone. If you are attacked and don't have a chance to use your cell phone or if your officers don't get there in time to save you, then DC gets a new Chief.

No fuss, no muss.

Chief Lanier represents the reason why we must always fight every bit of gun control everywhere. Give someone like Lanier any discretion when it comes to guns and she will show you what iron fisted tyranny is like.

There's an attached article from the NYT posted so you don't even have to go onto their website. Here's a few bites:

"Imagine how difficult it will be for law enforcement to safeguard the public, not to mention the president at the inaugural parade," Chief Lanier said at a hearing of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

She added that on any given day there were motorcades for foreign dignitaries and untold numbers of federal workers traveling the city streets. "In attempted and successful assassinations around the world," she said "the first step in attacking a motorcade is frequently to take out the security detail with semiautomatic and automatic firearms."

And just to remind you what a clueless bag Eleanor Holmes Norton is:

However, Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton, the district's delegate to Congress, said the bill was an affront to Washington's right to govern itself.

"The palpable risk that this bill poses to the public safety of our residents is deliberately lost on the N.R.A. and the Democratic and Republican sponsors of their bill," said Ms. Norton, a Democrat. "But, I doubt that carrying loaded AK-47s or .50-caliber sniper assault weapons openly in cars or in person will go down well with federal law enforcement and security officials in this city, where two presidents have been killed with handguns."

Um, yeah. This is about owning handguns in your house, not carrying rifles throughout the capitol. We'll work on that later. Nice try.

By the way, I definitely recommend signing up for the VCDL's alerts even if you're not a Virginia resident. They stay current on national issues as well. Click here to register (free).

Vinton man pleads no contest in attack on Appalachian Trail hiker

By Mike Allen

A Vinton man accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a young woman who was passing through Botetourt County while through-hiking the Appalachian Trail will spend eight years in prison.

Joel Fulton Carter III pleaded no contest this morning in Botetourt County Circuit Court to a charge of animate object sexual penetration. In exchange for his plea, a 30-year sentence was suspended after eight years.

The incident occurred in early May. Authorities said the woman, who was hiking alone on the 2,175-mile trek from Georgia to Maine, had gotten off the trail near Troutville with plans to go to a post office and pick up a package of supplies that was waiting for her.

As the woman walked along U.S. 11 near the Exit 150 interchange with Interstate 81, a man offered her a ride, she told police. The man then drove her to an industrial plant, where he reportedly worked, and took her into an office building.

The woman said the man sexually assaulted her and then told her it was to teach her a lesson not to accept rides from strangers, according to previous court testimony. [PVC: So, if she had been armed and shot him, she could have said it was to teach him a lesson about not sexually assaulting women. ;-) ]

The Appalachian Trail crosses U.S. 220 just north of the Exit 150 interchange, and it's common for through-hikers to stop long enough to take advantage of a cluster of
restaurants and motels. The nearby Troutville post office is frequently used by hikers as a mail drop.

Authorities declined to give the woman's exact age or say where she is from. There is no indication that she knew Carter previously, authorities said.

Let us not forget that regardless of how safe we think we are in society, the laws of nature still apply, and that means that criminals - like all predators - prefer vulnerable victims. Shame on our Park Rangers for insisting that we have no means of defense on public land while they go about armed and safe.

Movie Guns XXIII

Back to back Movie Guns! I pulled these frames last week and had most of this post already in the bag. Next week looks good too as long as I can get on the internet. I hope you don't mind the new format, I will switch back to the old one when I'm able to use my home PC.

I found this movie at another PX in North Carolina and thought it would make a short clean post. The movie is Assault on Precinct 13. There are not as many types of guns as I originally anticipated, but there are still some good shots. The gunhandling is just awful, as is the realism, but there are some things that make this an interesting shoot em' up action flick. The movie is filmed almost entirely in the dark, so I had to lighten up a picture or two to get an idea of what type of gun was there.

The movie starts with a narcotics buy in an apartment by undercover cop Roenick (Ethan Hawke). The deal goes bad and one of the BGs pulls a Beretta Inox and starts blasting away:
Beretta Inox

Another undercover cop goes for a Beretta 92F that was hidden behind a stereo:
Beretta 92F

Roenick pulls a double stack 1911 from under a couch cushion. The hammer is back, which is unusual for a movie to portray a 1911 accurately, but I wonder why none of the cops had the guns on them.
Unk Doublestack 1911
I have scoured the internet for the make of this pistol and come up empty. There are not too many makers of double stack 1911s, and this one does not match any of them. It is not a Para Ordnance as they are clearly marked on the sides and do not have 90 degree vertical slide serations on the front and back. That's what will give the make away. It looks to be entirely stainless, and in some later pictures on this post it has no sights.

Continuing on, a third cop chases a BG outside with her Beretta 92F firmly in hand. This would be the best grip pictured throughout the rest of the movie:
Nice grip

The movie fast forwards about eight months after the above incident. The next scene is of some crooked cop sitting down next to Marion Bishop (Lawrence Fishburne) in a church. He pulls this little Para Ordnance Carry LDA 1911 on Bishop:
Para Carry LDA 1911

Bishop kills him with a knife that I couldn't get a picture of, and then goes outside where one of his minions with a Beretta Inox engages two under cover cops who are shooting Beretta 92Fs:
Another Inox
Two Beretta 92s

Bishop runs back into the church and shoots his two tone Sig P226 into the air to cause a distraction:
Sig P226

The next scene is in an old Detroit precinct that is getting shut down. Sgt. Jasper (Brian Dennehy) picks up a Thompson submachine gun from the evidence room and points it at Roenick's face and says "you'll never take me alive G-man!!" breaking all four safety rules at the same time. Nice.
Thompson SMG
Rules 1 through 4

After Bishop's arrest at the church, we see him being transported from one jail to another. The guard behind him has a Mossberg 500 Persuader, and the guard driving the bus has a Remington 870 Express:
Mossberg 500 Persuader
Remington 870

The next scene has us back in precinct 13 where Roenick and Jasper, as well as some other folks, are partying for New Year's. There is a huge snowstorm outside, so the prison bus transporting Bishop and some other prisoners pulls over to wait the storm out at the precinct. What turns out to be dirty cops try to infiltrate the precinct and kill Bishop; the first wave being these two masked men with suppressed Beretta 92s:
Suppressed Beretta

After they are repelled back outside, Jasper blasts away indiscriminately with his issue Beretta 92F:
Blasting with Beretta

We get another look at Roenick's 1911 when he goes outside to engage the BGs:
Unk Doublestack 1911 dark
Who makes this 1911?

And again when Roenick starts firing out the window. There are some grasping lines that run down the middle of the front strap. Notice that there are no sights, and that the hammer is down the whole time he's firing; indicating that the muzzle flashes were added after the scene was filmed:
No sights firing
Hammer down
Firing hammer down

The dirty cops respond back with a 40mm flashbang fired from a M203 grenade launcher mounted under a Colt M4, and one with a H&K MP5SD:
Loading M203
M203
H&K MP5SD

One of the dirty cops gets killed inside the precinct, and Roenick snags his Sig SG551 rifle with Aimpoint M68 and what looks like a Surefire M6 combat light. Click on it and the picture will be a little lighter:
Sig SG551

Here is one of the dirty cops who looks like a mall ninja:
Mall Ninja
These guys sneak up all quiet to the outside of the building, and then all of a sudden jack the slide on their shotguns, or they pull back the charging handle on their rifle. Way to go.

On the rooftops there are snipers posted with Accuracy International AWP (Arctic Weather Police) rifles in .308 Winchester. They bolt a round into the breach to emphasize that they mean business (chuckles):
AI AWP
AI AWP308

Inside you can see the non-tactical lasers from the weapons of the dirty cops, despite the fact that having such conspicuous things on your weapon is foolish, not to mention that weapon mounted lasers don't really look like that unless you are looking at the beam through night vision:
Conspicuous laser beams

Speaking of which, we have the uber tactical view from the NODs, which really don't have the little useless numbers all over the screen:
Uber Tac NODs

Roenick releases the prisoners to help defend the building from the dirty cops. Bishop has a Sig SG551 that is missing the trigger guard, and he also doesn't bother to flip open the covers on the Aimpoint M68:
No trigger guard
Aimpoint cover closed

But Bishop gets cool points for acquiring the SG551 by killing one of the mall ninjas with two well placed Molotov Cocktails:
Molotov Cocktail

Sweet!!

Another one of the prisoners fires the Tompson SMG without using cover, and without hitting a damn thing:
Tommygun
No cover

The dirty cops breach a window with a lump of modeling clay that's supposed to be C4:
Modeling clay

Roenick and Bishop set the place on fire to cover their getaway, and at the last minute shoot it out with four mall ninjas; three of which are wearing M40 Field Protective Masks. I guess the fourth cop forgot his. Nither Bishop nor Roenick hit anything with the sixty rounds that they expend:
No aiming
M40 FPMs

At the end we get a third glimpse of Roenick's 1911 in this cup-and-saucer grip. The reason I always bash this grip is because the support hand only helps carry the weight of the gun, and does nothing to help control aiming or recoil. He might as well hold it one handed:
Bad grip

The last picture I have is of a flashbang grenade that looks like it was made out of plumbing parts from Home Depot, which makes sense considering it pretty much blows Jasper to pieces:
Home Depot flashbang

I was not as impressed with this movie as I was when it first came out. Defending against a siege by crooked cops is a cool theme from a movie, but I wish that more realism was spent on the firefights. There are some cool guns here, but hip firing weapons kinda ruined it for me. One thing I thought was interesting is that Roenick and the prisoners kept looking outside from the windows and observed the BGs moving about. Why they didn't take them out with well aimed fire is only apparent when you get done with the movie and realize that nobody bothered to use the sights, or even put the weapon to their shoulder.

Update: Roenick's 1911 is a Para Ordnance P14 Limited after all; just an older one. The ones on their website have 11 degree slide serrations, so I ruled them out.

I'm still alive

I'm home for one of about three days that I have off this month. Sorry for the lack of posting; part of it is because after I did the last Movie Guns post, my computer failed to go online again until tonight. I have no idea what the problem is, but I'm working on it.

I have all of the frames for this weeks Movie Guns, I just have to upload them to Photobucket, label them, and do the post. Your probably looking at a back-to-back post this week, in the mean time tune in sometime tomorrow afternoon.
