Movie Guns VII.5

As promised, here is a review of the weapons seen in the movie The Outsiders. I was asked about the make of the balisong that Emilio Estevez carries in the movie, and I had not seen this movie for well over ten years, so I picked it up at Target last night to give it a look.

There are several firearms in this movie, as well as several different types of knives. I got a closeup of some of them, but there are others that I just couldn't get a good picture of.

The first knife that I could get a picture of is a black handled balisong with a spear point blade and a false edge. It appears to be stainless, but I could be wrong. Here is Two-Bit (Emilio Estevez) flipping the knife open right before a confrontation with the Socs:
Bali flip

Here's a closer look:
Bali in face

Later, Johnny (Ralph Macchio) pulls a stag handled switchblade from his pocket. It has a strange latch that he pulls down with his thumb:
Unk switchblade latch

Unk switchblade open

This is the knife that he uses to fatally run through one of the Socs that is drowning his friend Ponyboy (C. Thomas Howell), as seen here covered with blood:
Unk switchblade bloody

Afterwords, Johnny and Ponyboy seek help from their friend Dallas (Matt Dillon), who promptly gives them cash, instructions, and this revolver:
Unk revolver

As he is handing it over to Johnny, you can see a shotgun and a Hawken rifle hanging on the wall:
Hawken w/shotgun on wall

Later on, Two-Bit and Ponyboy are visiting Dallas in the hospital, and Dallas asks to see Two-Bit's balisong:
Emilio and Bali

Two-Bit always flips open the latch with his right hand while the knife is tip-up, then rolls it tip-down in his left hand, and then flips it open with his right hand. He does a good job controlling the knife, but I don't think he caries one day-to-day.

Here's Dallas holding the knife:
Bali in hospital

If you look close, you can see a butterfly etched into the hilt. You can see it better on the second picture above.

At some point, Dallas starts carrying a "heater." Ponyboy says "heaters are for kiling people." Idiot.
Unk auto

I don't know what type of gun it is, but he uses it to knock off a convenience store towards the end of the movie:
I have no idea what type of auto this is

The store owner pulls out a little revolver and shoots Dallas as he is running away with all of the cash:
Store owners revolver

I doubt the cops would have any problems with the store owner, even though he shot Dallas in the back.

Well, I have no idea who makes these weapons, but I have captured them for everyone to look at. I will try to trace down the make and model of these, and will update the post when I find something.

Update: Ahab identifies the small auto that Dallas is holding as a compact model of the Star B in 9mm. Good to go.

Now, does anyone have any idea who makes the bali?

Update: The auto knife that Johnny uses to kill the Soc is a German made Solingen Springer. Here's some more information. I found this info completely by accident.

Movie Guns VII

I chose the film Ronin for this weeks Movie Guns. This movie has a ton of weapons and gunfights, and some spectacular car chases. Robert DeNiro and Jean Reno star in this movie about a group of mercenaries who are to steal a briefcase by force from heavily armed guys. Gun handling skills are top notch, with very few mistakes.

The first gun that I have pictured is a Baby Eagle. I never saw this weapon fired in the film.
Baby Eagle

When the mercs are talking about weapons acquisition, Spence (played by Sean Bean) asks Sam (Robert DeNiro) what his favorite weapon is:

Sam - I actually favor the ol' 1911.

Spence - .45.....old gun.

Sam - Served my country well for a long time.

Not long after this, there is a great gunfight in an underpass where we see Sam knock down some bad guys with his 1911:
DeNiro's 1911

DeNiro's 1911 firing

Firefight

I think I would change my ammo if I had fireballs like that coming out of the muzzle. Vincent is blasing away with a stainless Beretta 92F which he uses throughout the rest of the movie:
Beretta 92F

Here it is seen in a later firefight:
Beretta 92F SS

He has a good hold on that Beretta and he keeps both eyes open with every shot. Of note is that Jean Reno doesn't flinch at all, and he fires the gun like he has owned it his whole life. I don't know if he shoots often in real life, but he plays a believable character.

In the same underpass firefight, Spence is indiscriminently firing with an H&K MP5 PDW with a bottomless magazine:
H&K MP5 PDW

The big gunfight is somewhere in the middle of the movie, and Sam starts it out by blowing up a car with a H&K 69 40mm grenade launcher:
40mm GL

He then lights up another car with his Sig SG551:
Sig SG 551

One bad guy - if he can be called that - is returning fire with a Scorpion SA Vz 61:
Scorpion SA Vz 61

He quickly becomes merc fodder like all the others, except for these guys in the car; one of which is shooting an AK pistol:
BG w/Krink

This ambush triggers a great car chase, and Sam takes out a car with a M72 LAW from the sunroof of a speeding Mercedes:
LAW

When the chase comes to a crashing halt, he pulls out a Para M249 SAW and puts down a base of fire:
SAW

That's what I'm talkin about! In this scene he shoots up a car in an alleyway:
SAW blast

Then he takes cover behind the corner of a building and drops a few BGs with some defilade fire. You can see where the wall turns black from the muzzle blast:
Base of fire from defilade

Notice he has his knee against the wall for support. He would have more control over the weapon if he would extend the stock, plant the stock in his shoulder, and then shoot from a kneeling position. This is one of the better movie gunfights.

Gregor (Stellan Skarsgard) who plays one of the mercs chose to carry a Glock 34 for reasons unknown:
Glock 34

It worked fine for Denzel Washington in the movie Man on Fire, I just don't see why anyone would want to carry one.

Larry (Skipp Sudduth) has a short barreled Mossberg 500 that is never shown being fired:
Short Barrel Moss500

A tactical/SWAT team of ninjas rolls up, and here they are with mismatched weapons:
Ninja

After that big gun battle, the pace of the movie slows a bit to make room for a little acting. The WTF uber tactical award goes to Gregor, who wields this ridiculous looking Glock with some no-name red dot optic on top to shoot at a little girl:
Uber Tactical non-H&K

It looks like he put all of that stuff on the Glock 34 he was carrying earlier. Somehow I always knew race guns were dangerous (sarcasm)!

About two thirds of the way into the movie, there is a scene where a sniper with an AR-15 of unknown make guns down an ice skater:
AR15

Several Sig P239's are shown or fired in this movie like this one in two tone:
Sig P239

And this one that Sam fires at Gregor in front of hundreds of onlookers:
Sig P239 firing

Notice that DeNiro has a good firing grip, and is squinting but not flinching. Speaking of which, it seems to me that the terrible flinches in movies may be generated by the extreme muzzle blast and fireball projected by shooting blanks. Just a thought.

The last gun I will show is a Walther P5 that this BG indirectly shoots Sam with:
Walther P5

The hilarious part is that the round hits a concrete wall at around an 85 degree angle, from where the pistol is aimed in the picture, and then ricochets into Sam where it penetrates his kevlar vest. Later, when the bullet is removed from his abdomen, Sam says that the BG "sprayed his bullets with teflon." It's amazing that this Hollywood myth is still in circulation.

The myth is that teflon covered bullets can penetrate "bullet proof" vests because the teflon lubricates the shot hole as the bullet passes through. This is so ridiculous. To quote myself:
Teflon was initially used on hard bullets like bronze that wear out the rifle bore quickly. These hard bullets were coated with Teflon to prevent bore wear, and later they became popular because they prevented fouling in rifle bores that fired traditional copper bullets. Again, Teflon coating on bullets has nothing to do with penetration and is pretty much obsolete.

That's it for today. Tonight I will pick up a copy of The Outsiders to try and get some frames of the balisong that was used in the movie. I will try to get those into a post tomorrow.

Update: Anonymous points out in comments that Gregor's Glock is actually a 17L, and he has a good picture to show the difference. Good catch!

Knife defense - in Idaho

A woman fatally stabbed a man who was allegedly raping her. If that's how it went down, then good on her.

Let's play pin the blame on the decade

These days you hear so much about how video games and gangsta rap is corrupting our nations youth, and I remember in the 90's, parents and politicians were lamenting R rated movies and heavy metal for causing youth violence.

It was way before my time, but it is interesting to read that the demon of the 50's and 60's was the comic book.

Back then, the media and beaurocrats somewhat successfully banned switchblades because they erroneously thought that they caused youth crime. Too bad this incongruous stigma of auto knives stands today. Nowadays, the same media/beaurocrats blame guns as an object which causes crime.

One day I hope that we replace these idiots with folks who know where to place the blame: square on the shoulders of the individual who commits the crime. We, as a nation, need to start holding our public servants accountable for this change, and ensure that we put violent criminals away for good.

DC Metro Police get Uber Death Machines

DC Metro Police will get "assault rifles" for patrol. Most of us who have at least a fundamental grasp of firearms know that the term "assault rifle" is a farce, just like the term "assault weapon" is too.

It is commonly accepted that the term "assault rifle" describes a select fire rifle that is capable of firing both one round per trigger pull, or multiple rounds per trigger pull. I refuse to use such a stupid term in anything more than outright mockery, regardless of the logic. Automatic weapons are so misunderstood that it does no good to try to sort it out right now, so I won't even try.

The point that I want to make is that many, if not all, gun control groups like to spew this nonsense about militant looking weapons being used for the sole purpose of killing massive amounts of people. If that is the case, then why give them to police? Do we want cops killing mass numbers of civilians?

No, that's absurd. It is equally absurd to think that civilians would do the same with ownership of these weapons.

And if they are so damn dangerous, then why is everyone cool with cops getting them? Are Metro police officers that much more altruistic then us mere civilians? No, they're not. Cops are people just like anyone else. As far as receiving training to handle one of these bucking bronco "mayhem" rifles; there are so many US military veterans trained to use rifles like the M16 or Bushmaster that it cannot be counted. It doesn't take a state governments blessing to safely use them, so why the hysterics?

Simple misunderstanding, ignorance, and worst of all: hype.

Let's take a look at what the Violence Policy Center thinks of these weapons, and I'll comment on some of the hype:

Assault Weapons: "Mass Produced Mayhem"
The guns covered by the Assault Weapons Act were semiautomatic versions of fully automatic guns designed for military use. Whereas an automatic weapon (machine gun) will continue to fire as long as the trigger is depressed (or until the ammunition magazine is emptied), a semiautomatic weapon will fire one round and instantly load the next round with each pull of the trigger.
So semi-autos' don't fire as fast, right? That's what I'm hearing, until this..

Semiautomatic assault weapons fire with extraordinary speed.
"Extrordinary speed?" How ridiculous!

When San Jose, California, police test-fired an UZI, a 30-round magazine was emptied in slightly less than two seconds on full automatic, while the same magazine was emptied in just five seconds on semiautomatic.
So much for extrordinary speed if it takes two and a half times as long to empty a magazine.

The military features of semiautomatic assault weapons are designed to enhance their capacity to shoot multiple targets rapidly.
This is absolutely not true. The features that they are talking about have many uses, none of which increase lethality. If you need help grasping this, click here.

For example, assault weapons are equipped with large-capacity ammunition magazines that allow the shooter to fire 20, 50, or even 100 rounds or more without having to reload.
As often, and that doesn't mean a whole lot. Click here to see Jerry Miculek reload a six shot revolver faster than most shooters can draw from a holster.

Pistol grips on assault rifles and shotguns help stabilize the weapon during rapid fire and allow the shooter to spray-fire from the hip position.
This statement is pure fantasy. Do you think DC metro cops are going to use them to "hip-fire?" Didn't think so. The only "hip-firing" that is seen nowadays is from some starving, illiterate terrorist in third world country who is only seconds away from a righteous lesson in shoulder fired marksmanship.

Barrel shrouds on assault pistols protect the shooter’s hands from the heat generated by firing many rounds in rapid succession.
Yeah, it's a SAFETY DEVICE! Let's just take those plastic handguards off of those police officers weapons, you know, so they don't "fire off too many rounds in rapid succession." Wouldn't want things to get outta hand.

Far from being simply “cosmetic,” these features all contribute to the unique function of any assault weapon to deliver extraordinary firepower. They are uniquely military features, with no sporting purpose.
Actually they are mostly cosmetic, but there are a few items that are practical, like a collapsing stock. Here's just a taste of the "sporting purpose."

As ATF has explained:Assault weapons were designed for rapid fire, close quarter shooting at human beings. That is why they were put together the way they were. You will not find these guns in a duck blind or at the Olympics. They are mass produced mayhem.
You mean this ATF? They are as incompetent as it gets, so I won't bore you with the details. You can google them all night if you would like. As for "massed produced mayhem," how truly silly can you be?

These weapons “are not generally recognized as particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes” and instead “are attractive to certain criminals.”
And, like, millions of Americans. I never did read anything from our founding fathers on "sporting purpose," but I did read plenty on using firearms to overthrow a government that is too big for its britches.
The firepower of assault weapons makes them especially desired by violent criminals and especially lethal in their hands.
"Especially lethal?" Does their holding it make the bullets go faster?
Prior to the Act, although assault weapons constituted less than 1% of the guns in circulation, they were a far higher percentage of the guns used in crime. ATF’s analysis of guns traced to crime showed that assault weapons “are preferred by criminals over law abiding citizens eight to one....Access to them shifts the balance of power to the lawless.”
This is the biggest lie that I have heard in awhile. The AR-15 type rifles have become one of, if not the most, popular semi-automatic rifle in American history, thanks in part by Hillary Clinton's anemic "assault weapon ban." Google AR-15 and take a looksee at what you find.

I'm not against cops having a semi-auto rifle while on patrol; I am actually an advocate, but I'm also firmly for the same rifles in the hands of civilians. I was using this post to point out the double standard that is so often applied by gun grabbers. You can't have it both ways by saying that they are designed for mass killing, and then say it's OK to give them to police.

Update: Armed Canadian addresses an article in the Washington Post about the DC police and their acquisition of deadly assault thingies, because apparently, DC's illustrious gun laws have not prevented criminals from bringing guns into the district, specifically "high powered" weapons.

The bullshit flag has been raised, and rightfully so, because there is no evidence of any criminals in DC carrying "more powerful weapons." The media and DC officials do not have the slightest clue about what constitutes "high powered" in terms of firearms, and if they think they're on to something, then they must have bumped their head.

Update: I found this thread at The High Road which links to a Washington Times post about these weapons. The article has some interesting quotes, but this one stands out:
D.C. Council member Jim Graham said he would "be inclined to support" the use of assault rifles because he sees no alternative in the war on guns.

Emphasis mine. At least their coming out and saying it.

Maryland State Troopers get Beretta death machines

They traded in their Beretta 96D's for the new Px4 Storm in .40 S&W. Here is my post where I got to play with the Storms for awhile. Too bad I didn't get to shoot them.

Here is some more information from Gunsholstersandgear.com:
The Px4 Storm Model D .40 S&W is a Double Action Only pistol featuring a spurless hammer and an automatic firing pin block safety with a 3-dot sight system coated in Superluminova®, a special photo sensitive material that provides luminescence for up to 30 minutes with just a short exposure to any -more- Press Release Page 2 kind of light. An integrated Picatinny rail allows for mission specific use of laser devices and illumination tools. The rotating barrel locking system reduces friction within the barrel, slide, and central block providing for a smoother operation and greater reliability. The lower barrel axis also reduces felt recoil and minimizes muzzle rise allowing officers to get back on target more quickly.

The case of Cory Maye

This video, found at Reason.tv via The Agitator, is about the Cory Maye case in Mississippi. For all of the background information on Cory's case, click here.

Click here for a newer case, the one of Tracy Ingle.

Kalifornia needs coyote control

This is the third coyote attack on a child in Kalifornia in a week. Fish and Game wardens have set traps. I wouldn't be surprized if PETA sides with the coyotes.

I recommend passing out one of these to every household to help control the coyote population.

Gun cams in DC

There is an effort underway to have cameras mounted on DC police weapons. Good stuff. Interesting to note that the media thinks that cops in DC still use revolvers for duty weapons:
A bill under consideration by the D.C. Council would require police service revolvers to have miniature cameras to record how the weapons are used.

Man still robbing the elderly

Here is my previous post. He has struck again, and will continue to do so until he is gunned down by some not-so-helpless victim. He operates in Maryland and DC - yeah, go figure - and ties the victims up so he can rob them at his leisure.

Walking into someone's home while they're there is very brazen. Around here it would be tremendously stupid to force your way into anyone's home, especially the elderly. Most seniors I know are well armed, and they don't back down from confrontation.

Maybe he will cross the Potomac and try his craft with more dangerous prey. One of the 80-somethings around here will turn him into a steaming gutpile.

Update: The video has more details, like the fact that the guy choses upscale neighborhoods. Everyone interviewed that lives close to the victims say "it's not supposed to happen here." Also, the repoter talks about how pretty the flowers are and stuff.

I'm just sayin, your flowers, tranquility, and alarm sytems will not protect you. "Safe" neighborhoods are specific targets for these types of criminals, so take the proper precautions.

Very lucky store owner

I found this on the Buckeye Firearms Association's website, via The War on Guns.

In Ohio a business owner holds an intruder at gunpoint while the 911 operator plays 20 questions with him. He shows remarkable restraint throughout the whole ordeal. Watch the video to see what an absolute farce dialing 911 is.

I have the phone numbers of the local sheriff's departments stored in my cell phone. I think I'll call them if I ever have an emergency instead of playing games like this with some biased 911 operator.

Unbelievable.

University of Richmond "gun scare"

Jeeeeez, we hear about these almost every day, so what is the big deal? This gave me a chuckle:
He said there would be extra police patrols on campus through Wednesday, and students and employees were urged to be vigilant.

Be vigilant? Um, how exactly?

By screaming in terror when your disarmed ass is confronted by some lustfull killer who decided that today was the day to ignore all of the laws on the books, including the silly law saying not to bring a gun onto the campus, and go on an easy shooting spree?

We live in an emasculated society. Pity

Suicide in police custody

A DC girl arrested for assaulting a man with a knife hanged herself in the police station.

Guns do not cause suicides, desperate people kill themselves with whatever is at hand. If a woman with a child at home is willing to end her life, the method does not matter.

Extremely armed and dangerous

That is what the Phillidelphia PD is calling the third scumbag who is at large after killing a cop in a bank robbery. This story is getting spun left and right, with all of the usual scare tactics being thrown around, with words like "assault weapon," "high powered," "the sergeant had no chance," and even "I would call it an execution!"
Blackburn said of the assault weapon used to kill the officer: "It's got tremendous fire power. It's a weapon we're trying to get off the street here."
Umm, no. Click here to learn more about "tremendous firepower." The press is banking on this stuff. If anyone wants to place the blame on the weapons, first know this:
Police also stated that all three men had extensive criminal records.
I've heard that Philly has never been proficient at locking up their bad guys.

The gun that was used to kill the cop is a Chinese SKS with an Advanced Technology folding stock, and a 30 round detachable magazine that you can get to replace the standard ten round fixed magazine. Also found by police were:

Inside the van, cops found a fully loaded .44-caliber revolver, two sets of Muslim clothing, $38,000 in cash and two GPS tracking systems.

Nearby, under a trash can, police found a .22-caliber revolver and additional clothing linked to the robbery.

This is definitely a tragedy, but it is being turned into something it is not. The mayor of Philly is a jackass, so expect more "terror weapon" legislation from his blowhole sometime in the near future.

Don't be unreasonable

This guy may have been a bonafide crazy, and may have intended to shoot up Wal-Mart, but this is what I found interesting:
A former Wal-Mart employee was arrested in the crowded store he once worked at, armed with a 9 mm handgun and an "unreasonable amount of ammunition" that police believe he intended to use, according to arrest affidavits.

What, pray tell, constitutes "unreasonable" in the eyes of the law? Also note that this particular Wal-Mart is a "gun free zone" because of state law.

Training to fail

Some Prince William police are teaching Rape Aggression Defense (RAD). That's what they call it. Sounds super cool doesn't it? They teach "self defense" to woman, but guess what they leave out? That's right, how to use a gun.

OOOhhh! Hold the phones! In the RAD Advanced self defense course, women learn how to disarm felons! This must be the same place that the bad guys train to take guns away from women and NRA Instructors to use it against them!

Builds on techniques and strategies from the Basic class, and adds defenses against the edged weapon and firearm. This program also covers more prone defense strategies, multiple subject encounters and even low and diffused light simulation
exercises.

That's the hype of stuff that will help you when the chips are down. Just take away his gun! Why didn't I think of that?

Aerosol Defense Options Using the proven R.A.D. Systems philosophy, A.D.O. destroys the myths and manufacturer hype about pepper spray effectiveness and even their ability to deter a Committed Focused Aggressor.

Learn the most realistic methods for accessing, deploying and assisting the aerosol defense option; And if it fails to work (and it may), learn the proven backup strategies needed for successful escape. R.A.D. Systems has conducted over 300 video taped live test exposures to various aerosol products with a wide range of delivery systems. Stop believing a manufacturers selling hype, we know what works and what doesn't through hands on experience.

Stop believing their hype. Check out the videos if you like. I've done lots of training like that, and women, with very few exceptions, just can't play in the same league as men. It's not even a contest. Here is what real backup looks like.

There is an invention that can even the playing field though.
Continuing to enhance the many options of self defense, this program is for the Instructor who wants to put an impact weapon in the hands of the students they train.

No, not one of those; try one of these impact weapons. They are way more effective, and they're easy to carry and use.

While your pathetic keychain weapon may help you stop one of your aggressors:
who are payed to not actually rape and/or kill you, my choice of weapon will stop a real aggressor in a real attack, the kind where you're playing for all the marbles. It looks like this:

I do think that learning empty handed defense is important, but I think it's best taught as a last ditch effort, not as a primary form of defense. A good awareness of your surroundings, such as what Col. Cooper taught, plus competence in a firearm, and coupled with some empty handed fighting techniques, and you will be good-to-go.

The stuff that they're teaching leaves a big, gaping hole in the self defense package. Don't believe the hype.

All hands on...something that sounds very similar

DC 'leadership,' and the police, may have their hands on something, but it ain't the deck. I'm pretty hardon DC (pun intended), but I don't think it's unwarranted.

DC's Mayor Adrian Fenty is probably the best leader that DC has had in a long time, but listening to him talk about how to reduce violent crime shows that he has little interest or understanding on the issue.

Enter the latest police state garbage that is going on, with "all hands on deck." Everyone was out on patrol, over 3,400 cops in all, including police chief Cathy Lanier.
"Everywhere I go, it's police officers on top of police officers on top of police officers," she said.
So, in the capitol of the greatest nation on earth, in the bastion of freedom, we have an entire police force occupying the city. Would Thomas Jefferson approve? Doubtful, but did the police state tactics stop crime?

Not exactly.
Police have been flooding trouble spots in the city this weekend through the Chief Cathy Lanier's "All Hands on Deck" program, but the downtown area where the stabbings happened is not prone to violent crime.
Criminals went elsewhere and committed violent crimes, like this shooting.

This is what happens when you don't allow the community to help keep crime low. Keeping the general population unarmed encourages them to be victimized, and then pour in the "there's nothing you can do, just call the authorities" rhetoric, and you have a city full of citizens who won't even help a man who is bleeding to death at a gas pump.

DC will never become safe until the citizens are trusted to help make it safe, and I'm not talking about calling in an anonymous tip, or vigilantism - that is what we pay cops to do - I'm talking about giving back to the citizen the ability to match a criminal's force. When the victims can no longer be victimized, you will have peace.

Update: There were two more shootings yesterday, maybe more as the article says "third SE DC shooting in a day." Metro police used the hightech shot spotter system to quickly locate the gunshots, and.....they got there too late. The man was hit multiple times and he died, and while police were responding to that call, they came across another gunshot victim.

Technology will not keep you safe, but an armed community of diligent people will.

Update: Here is the other shooting(s). This would be an all out firefight, with 75 rounds fired and one 23 year old girl dead. An eye witness doesn't want to be seen on camera.

Way to go Chief!! Making the streets safe and all, why don't you just have your assistant chief talk to these gangbangers, and, you know, reason with them. Or are you going to "get them?''

Mall ninjas

I haven't read these in years. I laugh until it hurts, but this is only for the serious gun guys. Complements of The High Road.

Movie Guns VI

Going back to the zombie theme, this weeks movie guns is from the remake of the movie Dawn of The Dead. There are some great shots of zombie mangling at the business end of a shotgun, and there are several revolvers used throughout as well.

I didn't get any closeups of zombie brains due to the editing of the film. Some movie critics addressed this when the film came out, saying that there were no closeups because the zombies could easily be spotted as a fake. Well, duh! They can't just go out and buy real zombies.

Most movies add stuff like the muzzle blast in order to keep all of the actors safe. Firing a gun that has been modified to fire blanks sounds like there would be no problem, but looking at the fireball coming out of the muzzle of some of these weapons and you will see what I mean.

When there are closeups, the scene has been re-shot using very mild blanks so the actor dressed as a zombie doesn't lose all of his hair from the blast. Freezing a frame doesn't give a good picture, so I pulled the ones that were more exciting.

The first gun that I found is a Remington Model 870 shotgun with a light and extended tube that Ving Rhames, who plays a cop, uses to blast his way out of trouble through the film.
Remmy 870

He uses it during the first major zombie battle; like here where you can see him ejecting a high brass shell:
Cool ejection flame

Here is another Remington 870 from the same battle, this one with a pistol grip and no stock:
Shorty 870 blast

Most of the movie takes place in a mall in Milwaukee, where in the beginning there is a confrontation with armed mall ninjas carrying revolvers:
Two revolvers

One looks like a Smith & Wesson Model 27:
Bad hold

The other looks like a Smith & Wesson Model 10 or 13, I'm not sure; and check out that support hand finger wrapped around the trigger:
Boogerhook on bangswitch

Yikes!

Later on, a close range gunfight takes place inside the mall. Mekhi Phifer is firing the ever popular movie gun, the Beretta 92F:
Beretta 92F blast

His opponent is firing a Smith & Wesson Model 19, with some great closeups:
S&W 19 Close

S&W 19 blast

Snubby blast

I think the revolvers look better when firing blanks because they don't have to be modified with a blank firing adapter.

Towards the end of the movie, Ving Rhames is blasting away with his Remington:
Remmy 870 boom

Shooting zombies w/870

I caught this interesting picture of the muzzle of his shotgun. I've never seen anything like it, and it's noticeably different from the shotgun he was carrying earlier:
Shotty blast

We also has our two prestigious mall ninjas shooting zombies with the wheelguns:
Revolver fightin

At one point, actor Sarah Polley is shooting a revolver that looks similar to a Ruger SP101, but it is not:
Snubby super blast

This is the mystery gun from the movie.

At the end of the movie, the characters seek firepower in a gunstore, and then fight zombies with Glocks like this Model 22:
Glock 17 blast

They even have a Franchi shotgun:
Franchi

Now, for those of you who have seen the movie and are probably looking for the sniper rifle that the gun store owner, Andy, is using, I decided not to capture a picture from the main part of the film because you can't tell what type of rifle it is. Instead, I went to the extra scenes where Andy is carrying around a Sako TRG 42:
SAKO TRG

and for the H&K fanboys, here is Andy's MP5:
H&K MP5

There you have it folks! If you are a gun person then you owe it to yourself to check out this movie. It's zombie fighting at its finest!

Who knew 150 year old ordnance was dangerous?

Very bizarre. A civil war collector is killed by a 150+ old shell that he was restoring. Definitely worth a 2 minute read.

Oh, Yeah! Well My gun shoots 0.0614 MOA!!

Holy $#%&!! That's a 600 yard group! I can't even shoot that at 100, and can barely shoot that at 50! Found over at Accurate Shooter.

Uma "Freaked out" by a card

Apparently Uma Thurman has a creepy stalker. I'm sure most actors do, that's why I recommend one of these.

Oh, you don't like them eh? It seems that you have a habit of being intimidated by inanimate objects. Maybe you should get that checked out.

A terrible way to die

That's a new category that I'm starting after reading about this.

I've posted several before, and more freak accidents keep popping up.

Florida police bust 135 for growing pot

Big freaking deal, I know, but check out the picture of the gun that the DEA agent is holding. It's a 1911 with no grips. Maybe a project gun that wasn't quite finished?

The 1st Amendment shouldn't protect assholes

I almost didn't click on this story, but I'm glad I did.

A piece of shit war protester made and sold anti-war T-shirts with the names of dead Soldiers printed on them, and is now being sued by the parents of one of the dead Soldiers.

Is this sort of thing covered by the 1st Amendment? Time will tell, as the parents are suing for $40 billion in federal court in Tennessee; compensation for every Soldier, Marine, Sailor, and Airman killed in combat in the middle east since September 11th, 2001.

The parents may very well lose, but I hope this idiot gets run up the flagpole several times and bankrupted for being an ass before it's all said and done.

Friday morning round up

A NYC politician gets a DWI in DC.

A very shady article about a guy in MD who was arrested at a "traffic stop" for having "marijuana and a loaded 9mm magazine." The headline says he had a gun, and later in the article they call the 9mm magazine a "loaded 9mm." Then they say that the guy crashed his car. Then they say they found the gun and marijuana in his home. NBC just needs to get the facts straight.

A bingo parlor gets raided in MD. Saving them from themselves no doubt.

A VA Tech student crashes her car into a crowd of people in front of a sports bar while driving drunk and text messaging.

Teacher fired over part time "bikini job"

She was a biology teacher at Port St. Lucie High School in Florida, and worked part time at Smokin Em' Charters; a fishing charter that has bikini clad women help you land a big one. For an extra fee, they go topless.

There's not a whole lot to say. A school is not going to want to keep you employed as a teacher knowing that you have this type of side job.

On the other hand; if the topless fishing gig is so lucrative, then why bother working as a teacher?

Dial 911 and die

A 21 year old woman was killed in her apartment after she dialed 911. No one came. A post from The War On Guns shows that this wouldn't be the first time. Here's the skinny:
MADISON, Wis. - A college student apparently called 911 from her cell phone shortly before she was killed but a dispatcher hung up, failed to call back and never sent police to investigate, authorities said Thursday.

But aren't the "authorities" supposed to save us because we are all too incompetant to know if we're actually in danger? I mean, we pay cops to be full time arbitors of our protection, and people who think that they can take care of themselves are just "paranoid," right?
Norwick said he was investigating the incident and reviewing whether policies should be changed and employees should be disciplined. But he also said, "I don't think there's anything to apologize for at this time."

"It's not our fault." Got it. When one of our arbitors screws up, they will not be held accountable because they are shielded by bad policy.
