This story is tragic, but is an anomaly. I have never heard of anyone being shot at a gun show, and I've been going to them my whole life. I've heard of negligent discharges, but I've never seen one myself.
My heart goes out to the family.
Update: It wasn't a gun show, it was a "gun fair" which is a fancy word for what was, basically, a machine gun shoot.

It wasn't an accidental discharge. The boy was shooting an UZI on full-auto (as I understood it) at an exhibition, which allowed properly-supervised visitors to shoot machine guns. The UZI got away from the boy, despite the fact that his dad was supporting him from behind and there was a licensed instructor with them. A very unfortunate incident. My hearet goes out to their family. R.I.P.

I get the feeling the dad didn't know anything about auto weapons. There was a quote from him that he let his kid shoot it because it was small and had little recoil. Really? A micro Uzi? A horrible tragedy all around.
