I will see your assault weapon and raise you a Super Pistol!

Ok, how about a google search Jerry! Really, this is sensationalism and BS at its finest, with no fact checking or research conducted at all. What do they pay journalists to do anyways?

Hillarious story here. I'll cover the good stuff:
A flood of high-powered weapons purchased by Mexican drug smugglers from sellers in the United States has been targeted by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as part of a law-enforcement initiative aimed at stemming rising border violence.
A "flood" eh? Those illegal alien drug smugglers must be going to gun shows, how else are they getting these:
Thousands of firearms already have been seized by the ATF and other federal, state and local law-enforcement agencies, including M-16 and AK-47 assault rifles, AR-15 semiautomatic rifles, 40 mm grenade launchers, M-4 carbines, 9 mm pistols, .38-caliber "Super" pistols, and .45-caliber pistols.
I'm sure those $12,000 M16's and $15,000 AK-47's are just flying off the tables! Either that or they're breaking in to National Guard armories, and considering how unlikely that is I think it is safe to raise the bullshit flag on this story. And what the hell is a ".38-caliber Super pistol?" Truly absurd! We also have this dribble:
Violence on the U.S.-Mexico border is undergoing what U.S. law-enforcement authorities call "an unprecedented surge," and federal, state and local officials from Texas to California, concerned about the impact of illegally imported weapons into Mexico, say they are outmanned and outgunned by the drug gangs.
Outmanned I'm sure is an understatement, outgunned is a lie. That is unless he is talking about the sheer numbers of armed drugrunners that we have pouring into our country everyday. Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey is on the right track for a solution:
"..the ability to control "who and what comes into and out of a country is one of the most important attributes of a sovereign government, and being able to do that is vital to our nation's security."
Maybe we should put up a wall or let the National Guard shoot these criminals as they cross into this country. I'm sure our friend Michael Sullivan will just double his efforts to drive law abiding gun shops out of buisiness. There's more:
ATF also has conducted firearms seminars with federal firearms licensees, commonly referred to as licensed gun dealers, to educate the firearms industry on ongoing gun trafficking and "straw buyers," those who purchase guns and then illegally turn them over to criminals for a profit.
"Commonly referred to as licensed gun dealers?" As opposed to.."un-licensed gun dealers?" Come on Jerry, you know you want to say it.

Next time try a consult with google-the-wise.

He did have a record

I told you that punk was a prior criminal. Origional post here.

Sikhs stand up to the SS

From this story comes the best quote I've heard in awhile:
"We cannot undermine the rights and freedoms of religion in the name of security."
And this:
The kirpaan, which means blessed mercy, is one of the five articles of faith required of all Sikhs. It is treated with honor and meant to be used in defense of justice. It is not considered a pedestrian daggar.
Better than fresh air. Good on them for standing their ground. Shame on the Secret Service for not trusting anyone but themselves.

Way to go NJ

A school massacre was stopped in NJ before it went down. Not that I'm into giving NJ props or anything.

Notice that it was the school paying attention that stopped it from happening and not any of the ineffective gun laws that would have ensured the kid had plenty of victims. Here is a dose of stupid today:
Authorities notified the 17-year-old student's father, who voluntarily surrendered some guns in his house to authorities. Della Fave said that all the weapons were legally registered and that the father has been assisting investigators.

The plan was stopped but he gave the cops his guns anyways? Wierd. Lots of good that registry did huh?

Rangers still leading the way...

..in stopping your right to defend your life in a national park. My past coverage here and here.

Although now it seems like they might not be able to stop much of anything. Not until they stop reassigning or firing their leadership.

These are the park rangers that say that there's no reason to allow armed citizens to drive through the sacred ground of the national parks. The same rangers who don't trust the good people of this country to carry a gun while hiking in the parks to defend themselves against criminals and critters. They don't want you "running up and down the Appalachian Trail with guns" but apparently think it's cool to do crossword puzzles while they're supposed to be keeping you safe.

These are the same rangers who can't even defend the capitol of our nation. How are they supposed to protect me while I'm visiting a park when they can't keep their own affairs in order?
The report...said the chief must share the blame. It said that the force was plagued by low morale, poor leadership and bad organization and that it was understaffed, insufficiently trained and woefully equipped.

Cries for more taxpayer funding to follow. There's more:
The report suggested that hallowed sites on the Mall are weakly guarded and vulnerable to terrorist attack. It included surveillance photographs of what appeared to be a Park Police officer sleeping in a police vehicle as well as private contract security guards talking on a cellphone and reading the newspaper at the Washington Monument.

This is the kind of protection that the National Park Service has for its citizens. This article represents the DC Park Police who are part of the National Park Service. I'm sure there are some parks where the rangers take their job more seriously, but there are a lot of parks across our nation.

Something I want to consider before I wander into some remote part of the wilderness unarmed is what am I going to do if I am attacked. Statements like this don't make me feel like the officers that are there to protect me will have my back when I need them:
Asked at the time about the accusation that the monuments were not adequately protected, he said: "They're still standing."

Truly absurd.

The preferred method

Are you feeling down? Lost everything you own? Looking for a way out? Well then consider this: if you want to take your own life, this method is the better alternative than shooting up some restaurant.

Maybe we should look at this as a possible sentence for all child molesters.

That's why I didn't vote for him

Va governor Tim Kaine said he wouldn't pass anti-gun legislation, which he did. Now he veto's pro-gun legislation. I'm possitive he didn't even bother to read the bills. This is why I didn't vote for him.

Batman, Robin, Zorro - you've been warned

This story is about some thieving punk, but what caught my attention was this:
The suspect has been charged with one count each of armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, malicious wounding, wounding in the commission of a felony, wearing a mask in public, the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
and brandishing a firearm.
WTF? I have never heard of anything like this.

Not suitable for Elves

The Environmental Liberation Front, or ELF burned down some homes in Kalifornia because they weren't environmentally friendly enough. Why they didn't first stop in Nashville to fix Al's house is uncertain.
Builders involved with the project said the homes used "green" techniques such as water-pervious sidewalks, super-insulated walls and windows and products made with recycled materials, such carpet pads.

"We all built our houses to higher standards to try to demonstrate best practices in the industry," said Grey Lundberg, whose company CMI Homes built one of the homes that was destroyed.

Hey, I want to stop urban sprawl just as bad as the next guy but jeez! These homes supposedly had a bunch of eco-friendly features. Either way, you can't have idiots burning things down because they don't like it. If that was the case then I would have to quit my job to become a full-time arsonist!

Of note:

Crews removed incendiary devices found in the homes, Snohomish County District 7 Fire Chief Rick Eastman said. Later, however, Kelvin Crenshaw, special agent in charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in Seattle, said there was no evidence such devices had been used.

The FBI was investigating the fires as a potential domestic terrorism act, said FBI
spokesman Rich Kolko in Washington, D.C.

They removed "incendiary devices" but there is "no evidence" that they were used? "Potential" domestic terrorism act? What exactly do we pay the ATF to do again?

He's a Maniac, MANIAC

A drifting junkie got some castor beans and made ricin. Simple stuff really. Ricin is very deadly, although it must be in the hands of someone at least one more tier above a junkie to cause harm on a massive scale.

Oh, but if we just banned guns there would be no more violence! Seriously folks, there are much worse things to be worried about.

Boston begets violence?

Everytime I go to a Chuck E. Cheese I hear KILL KILL Kill Kill kill kill. Be warned!

Light blogging ahead

I am working on part 3 right now which is a very big post. I am going to have it up before the weekend.

A better post than most

A pretty fair piece from ABC news on the Heller case and gun rights. There are two things I saw that are not correct:

The possibility that the D.C. dispute could jeopardize a range of federal firearms laws — including those banning individuals from owning machine guns and those establishing rules for transporting weapons — has led the Bush administration to take a step back from its strong support of gun rights.

Emphasis mine. Machine guns are not banned, just regulated by the NFA. To a greater degree they are regulated by price thanks to the Firearm Owners Protection Act (FOPA). The second thing I found was:

The court did not directly address the scope of the Second Amendment. Yet its decision rested on the notion that the Second Amendment protects a collective right to firearms, not an individual right.

It didn't "rest on the notion." The Supreme Court didn't rule one way or the other in the Miller case, and it doesn't support either side of the debate. Miller didn't bother to show up for the case and neither did his attorney so the court made a ruling "in absence of any evidence."

No doubt Mr. Heller and Mr. Gura will show so lets hope the court gets it right this time.

The War on Drugs is sadly not the War on Thugs

We're number one! The US incarcerates more people than any other country. Too bad most of these inmates are non-violent drug users. When they get out they will surely become violent when they try to earn a living.

Here's a tidbit:
The report, released Thursday by the Pew Center on the States, said the 50 states spent more than $49 billion on corrections last year, up from less than $11 billion 20 years earlier. The rate of increase for prison costs was six times greater than for higher education spending, the report said.

Remember that the next time someone bitches about how short funded our education system is.

What is it with headlines these days?

Devil-Worshipping Rapist Attacks Fiancée During Prison Leave - in England

Study: Spanking may lead to risky sex - from the Fox homepage, the headline is linked to the article

Twin Porn Actors Suspected in Dozens of Burglaries in Three States

This world doesn't have long now.

Will wonders never cease?

About the surge in Iraq, Angelina Jolie says:

Addressing the question of whether the "troop surge" has worked, Jolie said that "I can only state what I witnessed."

"When I asked the troops if they wanted to go home as soon as possible, they said that they miss home but feel invested in Iraq," she wrote. "They have lost many
friends and want to be a part of the humanitarian progress they now feel is
possible."

I never thought I'd hear something like that from her.

I bet he has a record

In the land of the "most effective gun laws" according to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership, some gangbanging scumbag shot 8 people, 5 of them children, while trying to shoot two rival gang members.

The cops got his ass though, and hopefully some big tattoo'ed monstrocity named Brutus "gets his ass" when he goes to prison. I don't know how California is about keeping criminals behind bars, but I'm pretty sure they don't put much effort into it. How much do you want to bet that he has a mile long record?

Here in Virginia they do a pretty great job putting the nasty folk away for good.

Update: Told you.

Gun banning entertainment

Here we have a satire blog site that I found thanks to SayUncle! This has to be a joke, it just has to be! This is like manna from gun blogging heaven!

The author is "vpcadmin" who is pretty clever. Either that or it's a real VPC anti-gunner who apparently breaks off from playing dungeons and dragons from his couch cushion fort in his moms basement long enough to post this fantasy piece.

I love it!

The Capitol of the greatest nation on earth

Here are crime statistics for the last two months in one police district in Washington D.C. This is the first one I picked and there are more violent ones to chose from.

I guess Mayor Fenty should take away those licensed handgun permits "to prevent felons and other danger-ous persons from keeping concealable weapons."

Or we could just hold a meeting with these thugs to "come up with an action plan" which would surely "put an end to the violence," right Assistant Chief?

I wouldn't trust the D.C. leadership to hold a bake sale, much less run the Capitol of our nation. Where do these people come from?

Maybe someone should put up a sign

Police in Virginia are still looking for the guy who had a handgun on the Ferrum College campus.
Sheriff's Department Major Josh Carter said the man intimidated a housekeeper who saw him Tuesday morning. He said authorities believe the man had "violent intentions."

He apparently did not see the "Gun Free Zone" sign, and perhaps he couldn't have read it if he saw it. I have the solution:

That was easy! I should become a politician!
