I got in this afternoon after almost two days of flying, and after three weeks of travel away from my family. Home feels good. I have a Movie Guns to type out, but most of the work is already done. I just need to relax right now.

So what did the fairy god-ninja bring me while I was on world tour? Why a 2X - 7X Burris Fulfield II Tactical with Tac 2 knobs for my DPMS!! The rings were back ordered, so I had to go elsewhere. I will get a range report out as soon as hell freezes over, which will be the next time that I get to shoot.

Reason #2,174 why carry permits are stupid

Because some arrogant individual who wears a shiny brass thing on his shoulder can taketh your permit away, and thus deprive you of your right which you shouldn't need to ask permission for in the first place.

The basis for the whole "issue authority" of these little pieces of paper that now "grant" you your right stands on the believe that because the Sheriff carries a service sidearm that is bought and paid for by the citizens of his county, that somehow he or she is super knowledgeable in everyone's ability to carry one. Cops qualify with them annually, doncha know?

As a friend of mine once pointed out long ago, Sheriffs should be out saving people from trouble, not regulating people's rights.

"SHERIFF!!! COME QUICK!!! JIMMY FELL DOWN IN A WELL!!!"

The only question is was it "willful?"

Detroit Police Department firearms lab only met 42 percent of a required 100 percent compliance with essential criteria, according to the audit.

How do you protect citizens gun rights from this type of incompetence? How many people have been put away because of their mistakes?

“The harsh reality, however, remains that this audit has revealed a shocking level of incompetence within the Detroit Police Firearms Lab so severe as to demonstrate a systematic problem in all disciplines within the crime lab and requires drastic actions to insure the integrity of the criminal justice system in Wayne County,” wrote Worthy in a statement.

Kitchen knife registration

. . .would have prevented this. If the cops know who has kitchen knives, than this sort of violence will surely stop. Notice that these two were known by the police for prior violence, so if the cops knew that such serrated instruments were in the dwelling then maybe they could have, like, randomly stopped by or something.

Police shooting in Philly

The gunman has been identified as 27-year-old Daniel Giddings. Giddings was recently relased from prison for aggravated assault with a gun, and was wanted for assaulting four police officers after he was stopped for a traffic violation.

As tragic as this is, why the hell was this guy out of prison and free to walk the streets? This guy is a career scumbag who was released back into the wild. No doubt Mayor Nutter will use this as a linchpin to take away the rights of those who didn't do it by making it harder for them to own the tools that will protect their homes.

You cannot stop violent criminals at the cash register, and "enforcing the laws on the books" will do nothing to stop criminals. Keeping them locked up is what it takes.

CCW in 7 eleven kills robber

Again, from Kansas City. I told you I got the feeling that they don't play nice with scumbags.

Two clerks were in the store; one was in uniform and the other was not. The plainclothes clerk had a gun and a concealed carry permit.

According to authorities, an 18-year-old male walked into the 7-Eleven and attempted to rob the store. He was then shot in the neck by the clerk.

I can only hope that the next 7-eleven that I visit, the cashier will be so prepared. There are those who would, for some odd reason, be scared of a convenience store clerk being armed. I would expect nothing less than an employee at a business exercising his or her choice of being armed. To expect otherwise is insane.

The employee got to keep his life, now let's hope he gets to keep his job. Firing him will only make me boycott the franchise.

Homeowner in Missouri shoots three intruders

He killed one and wounded the two others.

Maybe the crooks had rough childhoods and didn't deserve to be shot for trying to rifle through this poor guy's house. Then again, if your craft is breaking into someones house and taking what you didn't earn, then getting shot and killed should be part of your accepted risk.

I've been to Kansas City recently, and nobody there seemed like the type who care about unlawful professions. I got the feeling that they protect what they earned. Good on em'.

It can happen anywhere

A gunman in Florida shoots it out with cops in a Wal-Mart, and injures a pregnant woman when bullet fragments from his weapon hit her. He got caught, and the woman will be OK.

I hope my wife reads this and decides to carry her little pistol more often, which nowadays is really not at all.

Activism in DC

Gun folk show up at the DC council to press for more rights:

Guns rights advocates at the hearing want to be allowed to carry guns outside the home, streamline the registration process and get rid of the ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

And another. My goodness is Eleanor Holmes Norton a deceitful scumbag. Why do DC residents keep voting for this rock? And gun owners are "extremists" for suggesting that Democratic politicians are misleading, or just outright liars? She says that it's an "outrage against homerule" and that Congress "stooped very low" as they're trying to pull the rug out from underneath their sorry asses for making a mockery out of the Heller decision. Replace the gun issue with one of abortion rights and she would do an about-face and bitch about how you can't legislate a "right" away from locales, no matter how small. Double standard.

She seriously says that the legislation would ". . deprive the police of the right to make [firearm] regulations. . ." Seriously. Has she lost her freaking mind? Cops don't have rights, they have powers, and not the kind that allow them to regulate enumerated rights of citizens. Allowing minors to purchase AK47s? Allowing mental patients to purchase handguns? She must have bumped her head!! The sad thing is that she will be re-elected!!

Unbelievable.

College shooting in Finland

Nine dead and more wounded. The shooter tried to kill himself, but he survived. No other real details from this yet as the story is still breaking.

Update: The scumbag died, making the death toll ten. An interesting note:

After the shootings, he said, he heard students shouting. Police came about 10 minutes after they were called, Varmola said.

"It took two hours to get this situation ended," he said.

I don't know the laws in Finland, whether they insist on putting up those silly "Gun Free" signs like they do here in the US, but just like in the school shootings here the cops show up in the aftermath, not in time to save anyone. It is rumored that the several armored vehicles involved did not play a decisive role either.

The gunman bought the gun well before the shooting:

MTV-3's Foreign Editor Risto Puolimatka told CNN that Saari was also issued with a temporary gun license last month. It was the gunman's first license, Puolimatka said.

Waiting periods don't work. The gun was a semi-automatic pistol from what I can gather:

The article likes to point out that Finland has more gun ownership than much of Europe. As much as you will hear about guns and school shootings, know that the most fatal school massacre in US history was committed with a bomb. The most fatal act of terrorism in the US was committed with commercial airliners hijacked using boxcutters; the most fatal act of domestic terrorism in US history was committed with a bomb; the second most fatal spree killing in modern world history was committed using a shotgun, a sword, and an axe, the first was committed with a rifle and some grenades. Again, to quote R. Lee. Ermey ". .it is the hard heart that kills."

Update: Blogger Stålhandske in comments notes that the weapon used in the killing was a Walther P22 in .22 Long Rifle caliber. This is the same weapon that Cho used to kill at Virginia Tech. I have this very pistol, and while it's a quality gun it's very sensitive to the type of ammo used, and it's not just mine; several of my friends have this gun as well. There is nothing special about it; it only comes with ten round magazines. To my knowledge they don't even make larger capacity magazines for it.

South Carolina reciprocity once again!!

The VCDL has announced that Virginia once again has reciprocity with South Carolina. Now if we could just whittle down on North Carolina we would be in great shape.

Update: SailorCurt has pointed out in comments that Virginia already has reciprocity with North Carolina. Somehow I've known that all along as I've carried there before, but maybe I'm just loosing my mind. It's quite possible. There is now one state on the east coast that doesn't play nice with us, and that would be Georgia, so I now redirect fire on them. How about it Georgia?

Movie Guns XXIV

Greetings from South East Asia. My timezone is way different than the states right now, so technically I'm only a few hours late.

The film for this weeks Movie Guns is Exit Wounds. I was watching this one the other day and thought it would make a good post. There is some good ol' 1911 gunplay in it, as well as some far fetched over-the-top action. Of course I have picked out the inaccurate details for your viewing pleasure, and I even have an anti-gun quote for you.

Here is the title shot with the vice president speaking out about gun violence in Detroit, where the movie takes place. Doesn't he look like Mitt Romney?

Here is his anti-gun rhetoric:

"Ladies and gentleman, it's a pleasure for me to be here on such a beautiful day. . .in the great city of Detroit. And I'd love to tell you all. . . to sit back, relax, and enjoy yourselves. I'd love to, but unfortunately I can't do that. There's a very serious issue that's spiraling out of control in this country. . . illegal handguns ending up in the hands of our children. But instead of reading off a bunch of statistics you might not already know. . . that last year more preschoolers died from guns that police officers. . . or that gunshot wounds are the 2nd leading cause of death for all people in the U.S. ages 10 - 34."

". . .that could have been any one of your children. I hope that you would consider my four year plan to get guns off the streets."

Are you sick yet? I know this sounds familiar, and just so you know, 51 police officers were shot to death nationally in 2000, the year of which this fictional Mitt Romney speakswhich not a big number in the scheme of things, and I don't see firearm fatalities anywhere in the top 15 deaths for 2000. I don't have a secure connection right now, so I can't access the WISQARS tool to comletely debunk his "10 - 34" junk.

Now, back to the guns.

A group of BGs, later to be called a "Michigan militant group," tries to take out the vice presidential motorcade. Several of the BGs are dressed like cops, and one of them is shooting with this high dollar Skorpion Vz61:


Another BG jumps out of an ice cream truck and pulls two Glock 18s out and kills two real cops. To think that he had the money to buy those pricey guns, but not enough for some holsters:


Note the silly gangster style hold, the flinching, and the fact that he could have done the exact same thing with a five shot revolver. Just an observation.

Our hero, detective Boyd (Steven Segal), pulls up in his El Camino and shoots the twin Glock BG with his short slide 1911:


Some of the BGs are in a helicopter, and a door gunner is firing down with a M60:



The secret service is firing with H&K MP5PDWs, and they can't seem to hit that door gunner despite the low loiter of the helo. Strange:


The other BGs dressed as cops are firing with Glock 18s while using their motorcycles as cover:

It looks like he's using the sights.

Boyd kills all of the BGs on the ground using his ninja tactics, the ice cream truck, his 1911 and the Mozambique Drill, use of BG as human shield, and a Micro Uzi that morphs into a Glock 18:


He then turns his focus on the helo, which he seems to be able to take out with his 1911 that morphed from the Glock 18 that morphed from the Micro Uzi that he took from a BG and miraculously fires in automatic bursts. The helo blows up, and you can see daylight through the bullet holes in the smiley face that is made of wood.

Next up we have a street fight with a bunch of punks when they try to steal Boyds truck. One of the punks pulls up his shirt to reveal a nickel plated S&W Model 36:


Another punk has a CCC Balisong that, for some reason, is carried open and tucked in his belt. Boyd taketh away:



Then another punk puts a S&W Model 686 to Boyd's head, and at the moment he pulls the trigger Boyd does a secret ninja kick and disarms the hoodlum:


Boyd goes out that night and finds some strange activity. He notices a guy named T.K. (Anthony Anderson) using some super tactical night vision binos that even record video and audio!:


Boyd goes in and gets into a fight with an undercover cop. He disarms him with some strategically thrown judo pipes that knock this unknown pistol out of his hand:


Later on, Boyd is checking out a building that turns out is being robbed. I got some close ups of his unknown make 1911, and during this scene he fires thirteen rounds without a relaod:



It's well known that Steven Segal is a 1911 guy. I believe he is an avid collector. His gunhandling skills are pretty good and he keeps his finger off the trigger, for the most part.

Moving on, we have Boyd and his new partner, Clark (Isaiah Washington) going into a club to investigate a guy named Walker (DMX), and Boyd ends up on another fist fight, while Clark gets into a standoff with Walker in the back alley. Clark holds Walker with a Glock 17, and tries to take his compensated and stainless Sig P220 from his waistband. Again, why the expensive hardware and no holster? The two get into a scuffle and end up with the other's gun:



Here's a closer look at that Sig:



Boyd finds out that there are a bunch of dirty cops on the force, so he goes to the rooftop of a garage to tell his captain. The dirty cops try to take them out with some more spendy hardware, like this H&K G36K:

Way to not use that $1k+ optic! He hits the car but not Boyd or the captain.

Another dirty cop uses this unknown shotgun to somehow blow up cars, but not the one he's aiming at. Again, damnit, use the sights:


The same cop then misses repeatedly with a stainless Desert Eagle, and right after that another cop blasts at Boyd and the captain with a Remington 870 with the buttstock dangerously mounted on his ribcage:



Now the cop with the 870 pulls a Glock 17, fires it a few times from a cup-and-suacer grip, and then the Glock changes to a H&K USP:



We knew the cops were dirty because Walker met with one of them to buy a large shipment of drugs, and during the conversation puts a Beretta Inox to his neck:


The whole thing comes down to a huge firefight at the end. Boyd gets ready at his house where he has a box of guns laid out on his living room floor. You can see his 1911 with several loaded mags, a H&K USC, and a glimpse of a H&K SL8:


Something I caught that made me laugh is Boyds shadow box with his "ode to me" stuff in it. You can see that he was in the US Army by the Master Sergeant rank insignia, as well as all of the medals and such, but what got me is that the two shooting badges are Marine Corps Marksman and Sharpshooter badges, not Army ones. Ooops:


I can't remember who's trunk this is, but it has a Benelli Super 90 in it, which is seen in the hands of Walker during the fight:



It can't be a gun movie without a Beretta 92F in it, and here we have two:



There are a few AR15's of unknown make in this fight. Here's a couple:



There's another guy firing a H&K G36K while not using either one of the optics that are standard on the rifle:


One of the BGs has a Remington 870 with a folding stock that looks like it was borrowed from a Franchi:


This gunfight has it all folks, even a Ruger MP9, a Sig 228, and Clark's Sig P226:




We even have Boyd and Sgt. Usseldinger (Matthew Taylor) fighting ninja style with fabric cutting blades that are weilded like swords! Usseldinger even does a flip for you!




If cops can do back flips while sword fighting, then they're more than professional enough to handle a firearm! That's why they're "Only Ones!"

That's it for today folks. Despite some of the outrageous stuff in this movie, it's a good flick. It includes a vast variety of blasty hardware, and some bigtime gunfights to go with it.

Update: Boyd's 1911 is a Colt 1991A1 Compact in blued steel.

Feet on the ground

Again, sorry about the light posting; I've been in the air for the last two and a half days. I have a Movie Guns post coming up, I just have to put it all together, and after that, I will be back in the air again for about two more days.

There seems to be some chatter on IMFDB about how Movie Guns X has some inaccuracies. Indeed, there is a Mossberg 500 that is actually a 590, thanks to the keen eye of a commenter, and some of the M4geries I did not correctly identify. I appreciate the scrutiny. I would like to add that both of our websites have inaccuracies, as they are created by humans which are prone to such things, and I will sometimes cruise IMFDB after I do my post to do a comparison. I like to think that my self gratifying site has something else to offer, which is commentary on the gunplay in the film. To each their own.

I'm barely holding this laptop together at this point, and I still can't post comments. I'm glad to hear that Sailor Curt's wife is good-to-go. There's no news like good news. Well, I'm going to take a nap before doing the post as I can barely hold my head up.

"a police officer mistook the homeowner for the suspect and fired up to six shots, hitting him in the stomach and legs."

Ooops. Some will say that this is why homeowners shouldn't have guns in the first place, but getting the whole story shows that the victim stopped the criminal by using his gun, holding him at gunpoint until cops arrived.

Chicago style gun safety

Not that I'm surprised:

Chicago has had 322 murders through August 21, or 42 more than the number committed through the same date last year. Also, police have received 10,000 more calls from people about shots being fired, and the number of calls about gang disturbances has jumped by nearly 4,000, according to the department documents.

Emphasis added. 10K more calls than last year over gunfire, in a city that's all "Gun Free" and all. Perfect! I reckon the solution is to make guns illegaler for gang members.

It's a good thing they have all of those strict gun laws and signs, because then gangbangers may start to get bold!

Hearts and minds

Sailor Curt needs some thoughts and prayers. I can't comment on his blog cos' my PC is not agreeing with me, but I'm praying for him.

Funny how that works

Two scumbags tried to rob a man in DC, but the victim pulled a gun and shot it out with them. He believes he hit one of the scumbags, but was himself hit in the hip.

To ruin the story for you, the victim was a retired cop. I just think it's worth noting that armed resistance saved the day, and not a cellphone.

DC Council approves loosening gun restrictions

The DC Council approved some measures that would reduce the restrictions on handgun ownership in the home. Among them are semi-autos are now allowed, but there is a 10 round magazine restriction; guns do not need to be unloaded and/or disassembled; safe storage is recommended policy, but is not law; one gun a month is allowed for registry; and finally, 5 years in prison if a minor is hurt or killed with a registered firearm.

It's a good start. I don't think that the District gives two shits one way or another about being rational in all of this, but I do think this is a knee-jerk reaction to Congress going above their heads. If they hadn't screwed this up last time they wouldn't be in this situation. Personally, I wouldn't be satisfied until the council went door-to-door and apologized to every citizen living in the District for walking all over their rights for 32 years.
